Berthoud plays host to a small arts community that includes the Berthoud Dance Company, the Berthoud Arts and Humanities Alliance and the Wildfire Community Arts Center, which includes a small blackbox theater.

Humanities departments

The university is organised into four faculties, comprising 18 schools and departments, spanning the Humanities, Law and Management, Social Sciences and Science and Engineering.

The campus has nine academic departments: the Department of Biological Sciences, the Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, the Department of English, the Department of Humanities, the Department of Management, the Department of Philosophy, the Department of Physical & Environmental Sciences, the Department of Psychology, and the Department of Social Sciences.

The Department of English and the Department of Philosophy are newly created departments, whose programs were formerly supported by the Department of Humanities.

It has a dedicated Humanities Center, which is the site for many literature and other arts-based programs, including the DWS, or Drown Writers Series.

Learning is enhanced through the use of notebook computers — complete with software and technical support — which connect students on campus and with the world with wireless connectivity featured virtually all over campus The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the largest school at the University, is the hallmark of the University with successful programs that improve creativity, analytical skills and an understanding of the human condition.

PhD programs organized by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences ( SHSS ) or the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences ( BIGSSS ), the joint Excellence Initiative funded by the German Research Council ( DFG ) between Jacobs University and the University of Bremen:

The federal government also funds the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities, which allocate grants to musicians and other artists, the Smithsonian Institution, which conducts research and educational programs, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which funds non-profit and television broadcasters.

These programs share a core curriculum, consisting of French, English, Humanities, Physical Education and complementary courses ( elective courses unrelated to the program of study ).

Nearly 80 degree programs are available on the two-year, four-year and graduate levels through four colleges ( Caudill College of Humanities, College of Business and Public Affairs, College of Education, and College of Science and Technology ).

It also notably houses the College of the Humanities, one of Canada's few Great Books programs, which leads to a B. Hum ( Bachelor of Humanities ) degree, and Carleton's Institute of Cognitive Science, which offers the only fully structured Ph. D. program in Cognitive Science in the country, as well as undergraduate and masters programs.

University of the Sciences in Philadelphia has 23 majors for students to choose from including two recently introduced programs, Humanities and Science and Fitness and Health Management.

The school is, furthermore, in the process of considering the addition of other programs that will emphasize its interdisciplinary approach to the Humanities.

It offers 64 degree programs in eight academic schools: School of Interdisciplinary Studies, Frank D. Hickingbotham School of Business, Chelsey and Elizabeth Pruett School of Christian Studies, Michael D. Huckabee School of Education, School of Fine Arts, Sutton School of Social Sciences, J. D. Patterson School of Natural Sciences, and School of Humanities.

Humanities and sports are also mandatory parts of the curriculum, adding to the differences with most French university programs.

The Department of Humanities has programs in non-English languages, history, visual and performing arts, linguistics, religion and philosophy.

Like Humanities, the department also houses many interdisciplinary programs including city studies, new media, public policy and international development studies.
