The Gibson County portion of Kenton is part of the Humboldt, TN Micropolitan Statistical Area, while the Obion County portion is part of the Union City, TN – KY Micropolitan Statistical Area.

The city's nickname La ciudad de las flores (" The City of Flowers "), was bestowed by Alexander von Humboldt, who visited the town on 10 February 1804.

The membership of the Humboldt County Greens has declined by over 25 % during his time in office, and they currently hold no seats on any local City Council ( which they had continuously from 1990 to 2008 ).
