Although all pay channels had been closed down on ITV Digital, many free-to-air channels continued broadcasting, including the five analogue channels, the BBC channels and ITV2, ITN News Channel, S4C2, TV Travel Shop and QVC.

In January 2005 Sky News took over supplying bulletins to Channel 5 ; ITN had produced 5 News since its launch in 1997 and the contract was returned in February 2012, following a change of ownership at Channel 5.

Since 2005 Sky News has produced bulletins for Five News on British TV channel Channel 5, after winning the contract to supply the channel's news bulletins held by ITN since the channel's launch in 1997.

The contract for producing Channel Five's news has now been given back to ITN.

In March 2004 it was announced that Sky News had won a 5-year contract to supply news bulletins to Channel 5, taking over from ITN in January 2005.

Terry Lloyd's funeral was reported on ITN news bulletins by Mark Austin on ITV and Samira Ahmed on Channel 4.

In the 1980s he spent some time with Channel 4 News, but returned to ITN in 1989, presenting the early-evening news.

The US presidential election of November 2008 was covered by ITN on the ITV network between 23: 15 and 06: 00 in a programme titled Election Night Live: America Decides, which saw ITN team up with fellow news organisation NBC ; Alastair Stewart hosted from the studio in London, supported by MORI-founder Bob Worcester and a team of studio guests throughout the evening.

ITN had been providing regular news updates to ITV since September 1955, with the main programme being a 14-minute effort titled Late Night News, which was broadcast at any time during the evening.

Chief News at Ten presenter Alastair Burnet retired from ITN in 1991, at which point plans were made for News at Ten to relaunch.
