Futurama was an exhibit / ride at the 1939 New York World's Fair designed by Norman Bel Geddes that tried to show the world 20 years into the future ( 1959 – 1960 ).

The popularity of the Futurama exhibit fit closely with the fair ’ s overall theme “ The World Of Tomorrow ” not just in its emphasis on the future, but also in its redesign of the American landscape.

At the time, Futurama ’ s imaginary landscape of 1960 was seen not as just a novel physical space, but as a glimpse of future time.

Futurama has had three designated series finales, due to the recurringly uncertain future of the series.

In the Futurama episode " Crimes of the Hot ," Al Gore himself references the book and its fictional future sequel ( far more popular ), Harry Potter and the Balance of Earth.

* Oprahism, the beliefs espoused by Oprah Winfrey which have been compared to a religion by numerous religious scholars and was suggested as a future religion on the TV show Futurama.

* In the Futurama episode The Late Philip J. Fry, the Professor, Bender and Fry travel in the Professor's Time Machine in which they find a five-times over Post-Apocalyptic future in the year 10, 000.

The Futurama episode " The Late Philip J. Fry " uses a parody of the song as three of its main characters travel through the various eras of the future, including the year 252525.

In 2006 IGN ranked the episode as number 19 in their list of the top 25 episodes of Futurama due to its humor and the effective way in which it portrayed Fry's discovery of the changes in the future.

The series has also been parodied on The Simpsons and notably in the Futurama episode " Where No Fan Has Gone Before ", which was described by Wired magazine as a " touchstone " for fans.

Nimoy has also appeared in several popular television seriesincluding Futurama and The Simpsonsas both himself and Spock.

* Rosie appears in the ' Futurama movie Bender's Game ; she has been sent to the Hal Institute For Criminally Insane robots after murdering Elroy and Astro.

The character has since made a couple of brief cameos: the Animaniacs episode " Boot Camping " has a character looking very much like Private Snafu, and the Futurama episode " I Dated a Robot ", shows Private Snafu on the building mounted video screen for a few seconds in the opening credits.

Throughout its run, Futurama has received critical acclaim.

The game has been referenced in episodes of the television series Family Guy, Futurama, and The Simpsons.

In the DVD of Futurama episode " The Deep South ," a cut scene shows Farnsworth muttering in his sleep about the Zombie Jesus returning at tea-time, when Farnsworth has no food to supply it.

Futurama has returned to the theme of time travel twice since ; in Futurama: Bender's Big Score, although the cause of time travel is different, and in " The Late Philip J. Fry ", which involves a time machine that can only travel forwards in time-to specifically avoid creating a paradox.

Claudia Katz, producer of Futurama, has also stated that this is one of her three favorite episodes of the series.

He has since written for Futurama where he is currently co-executive producer.

In the Futurama film Bender's Big Score, Cartman's head can be seen in a jar at the Head Museum while Lars and Leela feed Charles de Gaulle on their date.

The character Leela from Futurama was a foundling, given to the Ophanarium and a note in an alien language to make people believe that she was an alien, and not a mutant ( who would have been forced to live in the sewers, with the other mutants ).

Sagal also voices the character of Leela on the animated series Futurama and its related direct-to-DVD movies since 1999.

In 1999, Matt Groening cast her as the purple-haired, cyclopian spaceship captain, Leela, in his science fiction cartoon comedy Futurama.

The character fulfills a comic, anti-hero-type role in Futurama and is described in a fourth season episode by central character Leela as an " alcoholic, whore-mongering, chain-smoking gambler ".

In the film Futurama: Bender's Big Score Leela falls in love with a seemingly perfect man, Lars, and they soon become engaged.
