Khunjerab Pass ( elevation ) is a high mountain pass in the Karakoram Mountains in a strategic position on the northern border of Pakistan's Gilgit – Baltistan region within the region of Kashmir and on the southwest border of the Xinjiang region of China.

Today Kashmir denotes a larger area that includes the Indian-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir ( which consists of the divisions: the Kashmir valley, Jammu and Ladakh ), the Pakistani-administered Gilgit – Baltistan and the Azad Kashmir provinces, and the Chinese-administered regions of Aksai Chin and Trans-Karakoram Tract.

The Kashmiri Pandits, the only Hindus of the Kashmir valley, who had stably constituted approximately 4 to 5 % of the population of the valley during Dogra rule ( 1846 – 1947 ), and 20 % of whom had left the Kashmir valley by 1950, began to leave in much greater numbers in the 1990s.

* The Kargil War ( 1999 ) – In May 1999, Pakistan sends troops covertly to occupy strategic peaks in Kashmir.

* April 13 – India launches Operation Meghdoot, as most of the Siachen Glacier in Kashmir comes under Indian control.

* May 21 – In Kashmir, a Kashmiri Islamic leader is assassinated and Indian security forces open fire on mourners carrying his body, killing at least 47 people.

* September 2 – Pakistani troops enter the Indian sector of Kashmir, while Indian troops try to invade Lahore.

Closely related species, such as Bergmann's Elm U. bergmanniana and Manchurian Elm U. laciniata, native to northeast Asia, were once sometimes included in Ulmus glabra ; another close relative is the Himalayan or Kashmir Elm U. wallichiana.

In the U. S. Military Commission charges presented in 2004, the U. S. accused Hicks of training at the Mosqua Aqsa camp in Pakistan, after which he " travelled to a border region between Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and Indian-controlled Kashmir, where he engaged in hostile action against Indian forces.

He challenges the common assumption that terrorism is the threat that the United States is facing in the modern era, arguing rather that Islamist insurgency ( and not " terrorism ") is the core of the conflict between the U. Although a number of narratives and incidents in the novel revolve around Kashmir, the novel opens in Los Angeles, U. S. A. Max Ophuls, a U. S. diplomat who has worked in the Kashmir Valley, is murdered by his former chauffeur, Shalimar.

These included the Tamil Tigers ( July 1990 ), the Israeli occupation of Palestine ( 1994 ), Persian Gulf ( 1995 ), Turkey ( 1996 ), Chechnya ( 2000 ), Kashmir ( 2000 ), and the U. S. ( 2001 ) ( 14-15 ).
