Kevin James LaBrie ( born May 5, 1963 ) is a Canadian vocalist who is best known as the lead singer of the American progressive metal band Dream Theater.

James LaBrie was born in Penetanguishene, Ontario, Canada and started singing and playing drums at age 5.

With Matt Guillory, LaBrie has released four solo albums under various names ( Mullmuzzler, James LaBrie's Mullmuzzler, and simply James LaBrie ).

In an interview from " Beyond The Dark Horizon " on June 12, 2010, James LaBrie stated that his next solo album entitled " Static Impulse ", is in the mixing stages and will contain 12 tracks.

James LaBrie stated " The release of Static Impulse is one that the whole band is psyched about.

It was recorded during the summer of 1988 at Victory Studios in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, and is the only Dream Theater album to feature Charlie Dominici on vocals, as James LaBrie replaced Dominici as the lead vocalist on subsequent albums.

Perhaps he is best known as the second vocalist for the progressive metal band Dream Theater, having replaced Chris Collins ( while the band was called Majesty ) and later being replaced by James LaBrie.

After the band performed the entire album, they began playing " To Live Forever " a non-album track that was written in the same time period, and singer James LaBrie announced Dominici, who sang most of the song.

His love for numerous styles of music can be traced from his early recording of stride-pianist James P. " Crazy Man, Crazy " was the first rock and roll song to be televised nationally when it was used on the soundtrack for a 1953 television play starring James Dean.

His music is primarily folk rock in the style of James Taylor, but he has assayed other styles, with various albums focused on new wave, pop rock, roots rock, and children's music.
