From 1890 on, he had a friend and admirer in Judge Francis C. Russell of Chicago, who introduced Peirce to editor Paul Carus and owner Edward C. Hegeler of the pioneering American philosophy journal The Monist, which eventually published articles by Peirce, at least 14.

There are tombs in the church to Walter Grene ( 1456 ), Thomas Higate ( 1576 ), and Sir Edward Fenner ( 1611 ), Judge of the King's Bench.

On March 11, 1835, East Sudbury became Wayland, a farming community, presumably in honor of Dr. Francis Wayland, who was president of Brown University and a friend of East Sudbury ’ s Judge Edward Mellen.

An early example of the former was the use of the word ' Aotearoa ' to mean New Zealand in the 1878 translation of The National Anthem by Judge Thomas H Smith of the Native Land Court, the translation still used today.

After much debate, it was decided that the new community should be named for Olla Mills, daughter of Dr. Frank Mills and sister of Judge W. H.

On September 22, 1886, the land was transferred to the Loring Land and Improvement Company, composed of General Dunn, then a retired Army Brigadier General and former Judge Advocate General ; George B. Loring, a former Congressman and Commissioner of Agriculture ; and George H. LeFetra, a Washington temperance hotel proprietor.
