* The 1955 film The Phenix City Story ( directed by Phil Karlson ) is a biopic film noir focusing on the rampant crime and corruption in the city ( then called " the wickedest city in the United States ") and the 1954 murder of newly-nominated Alabama Attorney General candidate Albert Patterson.

In October 1964, Karlson, Konrad and O ' Toole left the group, which changed its name to Stu James & the Mojos in December 1964.

By 1941, as the U. S. State Department was counseling American nationals to return home, Gillars chose to stay in Germany after her fiancé, a naturalized German citizen named Paul Karlson, said that he would never marry her if she returned to the United States.

Shortly afterwards, Karlson was sent to the Eastern Front, where he died in action.
