Crawford's successful run as Chief Dan Mathews in Highway Patrol earned him some two million dollars under his contract with ZIV, who eventually paid him in exchange for Crawford's agreement to sign for the pilot and subsequent production of a new ZIV production, King of Diamonds.

King of Diamonds was picked up for syndication in 1961, but ran for only one season before being cancelled.

In 1962, after the end of King of Diamonds, Crawford returned to acting in motion pictures.

Between 1959 and 1967, he made more than fifty guest appearances in various television programs, including Naked City, The Eleventh Hour, King of Diamonds, The Aquanauts, The Untouchables, Diagnosis: Unknown, Burke's Law, Combat !, The Fugitive, Breaking Point, Bonanza, The Man from U. N. C. L. E., The F. B. I.

In 1973 Burrell formed " Snape " with members of King Crimson and Alexis Korner and then became a founder member and bass player for the rock band Bad Company, in the same year he co-wrote songs performed by Bad Company such as, " Rhythm Machine " with Simon Kirke and " Gone Gone Gone " from Desolation Angels ( 1979 ), " Nuthin ' on the TV " and " Ballad of the Band " from Rough Diamonds ( 1982 ).

He later starred in the ZIV series King of Diamonds playing diamond insurance investigator John King.

ZIV held up Crawford's ten per cent share of the show's gross ( some 2 million dollars ) until Crawford agreed to sign for a new ZIV pilot and TV show, King of Diamonds.

After returning from Europe, Crawford signed his new contract with ZIV and would later star in King of Diamonds playing diamond insurance investigator John King.

King of Diamonds lasted only one season before being cancelled in 1962.

Just before the band were about to make the leap to the big time, Rob Miller was seriously injured in an automobile accident and was replaced by Andy King, from a rival Philly band, Jack of Diamonds.

The number of deals is reduced accordingly-for example if a dealer starts by playing Diamonds, Girls and Collection together, then he has only two more deals, which must be King of Hearts and Trex ( in either order ).

The Jack of Spades, Jack of Hearts, and King of Diamonds are drawn in profile, while the rest of the courts are shown in full face ; these cards are commonly called " one-eyed ".
