S., and became the best-selling single of the year and one of the best-selling singles of all time with eleven million records sold worldwide, helping to popularize disco music to a great extent.

2000 saw a trio of releases from the band, beginning with a 10-year anniversary edition of Fear of a Punk Planet that was released by Kung Fu.

In addition, J-Horror and J-Drama, as well as other Asian Shows have been fansubbed as many people are becoming more and more curious about Asian Cinema and breaking away from the Kung Fu, Samurai, Giant Monsters films that so many people were familiar with prior to fansubbing.

The references arise from the group growing up in Staten Island in the late 1970s, and being influenced by movie theaters playing and advertising Kung Fu movies based on the Shaolin fighting style.

Liu Kang, the main character in the Mortal Kombat series, is a Shaolin monk, and Kung Lao from the same series, is also a Shaolin monk who seeks to avenge the temple's destruction, ( led by Baraka in Mortal Kombats story ), they were so popular, they were turned into their own video game, Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks.

There is also Hapkido, a Korean martial art composed of throws, pressure points, and kicks, many taken from Chinese Chin Na, Shaolin ( or more generally, Chinese ) Eagle Claw kung fu, Japanese Judo, and Korean Taekwondo, as well as Kajukenbo, a martial art which draws from Kempo Karate, Judo, Kung Fu, Escrima, Boxing, Tang Soo Do, and Jujutsu.

In recent years there has been less activity from the Kung Fu Records label, as Escalante has focused his attention on Kung Fu Films releases and on his new career as a morning radio show host.

Over the years Kung Fu Films has released more independent films, such as 2005's Cake Boy starring Fitzgerald, and several video compilations showcasing bands from the Kung Fu labels.
