Since the 1970s, the city has experienced tremendous growth, particularly during the economic boom of the 1990s under the leadership of then-Mayor and later-Tennessee Governor, Phil Bredesen, who made urban renewal a priority, and fostered the construction or renovation of several city landmarks, including the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the downtown Nashville Public Library, the Bridgestone Arena, and LP Field.

LP Field ( formerly Adelphia Coliseum ) was built after the National Football League's ( NFL ) Houston Oilers agreed to move to the city in 1995.

The NFL team debuted in Nashville in 1998 at Vanderbilt Stadium, and LP Field opened in the summer of 1999.

After the new Adelphia Coliseum, now known as LP Field, was completed in 1999, the team's name was changed to Tennessee Titans.

The team's training facility is at Baptist Sports Park, a site at the MetroCenter complex, located just north of downtown Nashville about from LP Field.

The Titans have posted an impressive record at LP Field since moving there in 1999, including winning their first 16 games before losing to the Baltimore Ravens on November 12, 2000.

Overall, the Titans are 45 – 27 in the regular season and 2 – 2 in playoff games at LP Field.

LP Field regularly hosts soccer matches featuring the United States men's national team as well as by the women's national team and visiting professional clubs.

Since then LP Field has been used for friendly matches by the U. S. women versus Canada in 2004, a return of Tecos against rival F. C.

LP Field also doubles as a large concert venue, although very few concerts are scheduled there due to attendance at some previously scheduled shows that did not approach capacity and the site's operating arrangements, which make it difficult for concert promoters to make their usual profit margins on events held there.

In late 1998, Sportsco International LP bought the stadium out of bankruptcy protection for $ 85 million.

LP's influence inside the stadium led to the creation of the LP Building Zones in 2007, located beneath the giant scoreboards from Daktronics at the North and South ends of the stadium.

After Adams met several times with then-Nashville mayor Phil Bredesen, they announced a deal to bring the Oilers to Nashville for the 1998 season to a new 68, 000-seat stadium ( originally called Adelphia Coliseum, now known as LP Field ).

The stadium served as Nashville's main outdoor stadium until the completion of what is now LP Field in 1999, when the Oilers — now the Titans — moved to their brand-new facility.

It is currently the third-largest stadium by capacity in the second tier of college football, NCAA Division I FCS, and the largest actually owned by the school itself ( Georgia State University, which uses the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, and Tennessee State University, who plays at LP Field in Nashville, rent larger stadiums used by NFL teams in their home cities ).

Today it owns the naming rights to LP Field, the stadium which houses the Tennessee Titans and Tennessee State University football teams in Nashville.

In June 2011, the Maloof brothers, Joe and Gavin, ( along with successful investor Ghassan ELMORABIT ), sold majority share of the Palms to two lending companies ( Leonard Green & Partners LP in Los Angeles and TPG Capital in Texas ), allowing them to continue building their stadium.

In 1978, Sam & Dave re-recorded old hits for the LP Sweet & Funky Gold ( Gusto ), and re-recorded songs and other soul hits during this period in Nashville for an album for K-Tel Records, The Original Soul Man.

In August 2011 MVD released Club, a concert DVD and double LP of the band's Nashville performance from the 2009 tour.

It occurred at the end of the Wild Card Playoff game between the Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills at Adelphia Coliseum ( now known as LP Field ) in Nashville, Tennessee.

For its first 33 years, Louisiana-Pacific was based in Portland, Oregon ; the LP headquarters were moved to Nashville in 2004.

In September 2003, LP announced the relocation of its headquarters from Portland, Oregon, to Nashville, Tennessee.

The park also contains a recreation center and is the home of the administrative offices of the city's Department of Parks and Recreation ; however, these are currently in the process of moving to the East Bank of the Cumberland River adjacent to LP Field in the offices of the former Nashville Bridge Company.

Gene Summers included " Blue Monday " on his 1981 LP Gene Summers in Nashville for the French Big Beat label.

The $ 175-million " Delta " added 922 guest rooms, bringing the total to its current 2, 881, and was the largest construction project in the history of Nashville at the time ( it was eclipsed in 1999 by Adelphia Coliseum, now known as LP Field ).
