She was the second surviving daughter of Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Suffolk, by his marriage to Lady Frances Brandon.

Their new home lacks many of the conveniences that they have been used to, however they are warmly received by Sir John, and welcomed into the local society, meeting his wife, Lady Middleton, his mother-in-law, Mrs. Jennings and his friend, the grave, quiet and gentlemanly Colonel Brandon.

This gave the succession to his cousin Lady Jane Grey, the granddaughter of Henry VIII's sister Mary Tudor, who, after the death of Louis XII of France in 1515 had married Henry VIII's favourite Charles Brandon, the first Duke of Suffolk.

When she goes to him for help, the Duke of Buckingham tells Lady Margaret that Brandon is dead and decides to go " rescue " Mary himself.

Lady Margaret discovers that Brandon is alive and learning of the Duke's treachery they hurry back to France.

The new Eresby manor house was built by Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk in 1535 after he married his ward, the fifteen-year-old Lady Catherine Willoughby, daughter and heiress to the 11th Baron Willoughby de Eresby.

Lady Mary Grey ( 1545 – 20 April 1578 ), sometimes spelled Marie, was the third and youngest daughter of Henry Grey, 1st Duke of Suffolk and Lady Frances Brandon.

She was the only surviving child of Henry Clifford, 2nd Earl of Cumberland and Lady Eleanor Brandon.
