James Todd Spader ( born February 7, 1960 ) is an American actor best known for his eccentric roles in films such as Pretty in Pink ; Less Than Zero ; Sex, Lies, and Videotape ; Crash ; Stargate ; and Secretary.

He starred opposite Andrew McCarthy, another friend, in Mannequin, and in the film adaptation of Less Than Zero, where he played a drug dealer named Rip.

Without doubt, the single most significant paper concerning the distribution of prime numbers was Riemann's 1859 memoir On the Number of Primes Less Than a Given Magnitude, the only paper he ever wrote on the subject.

A song he recorded named " Life Fades Away ", written with friend Glenn Danzig, was featured in the film Less Than Zero.

But they soon had another US No. 2 hit with a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's " A Hazy Shade of Winter " from the soundtrack of the film Less Than Zero, and the melancholic " If She Knew What She Wants ", written by Jules Shear, reached the U. S. Top 30 and the German Top 20.

In 1987 the band recorded a cover of the Kiss song " Rock and Roll All Nite " for the soundtrack to Less Than Zero.

He has also performed with former Spring Heeled Jack bandmate Rick Omonte in The Mountain Movers and as a fill-in trombonist for Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, and NOFX.

He has appeared in roles associated with the Brat Pack, such as Less Than Zero and Weird Science.

* December 17 – Elvis Costello makes his American television début on Saturday Night Live, but is banned after substituting the scheduled performance of " Less than Zero " with " Radio, Radio " instead.

In 1987, Downey played Julian Wells, a drug-addicted rich boy whose life rapidly spirals out of his control, in the film version of the Bret Easton Ellis novel Less Than Zero.

Though Ellis made his debut at 21 with the controversial 1985 bestseller Less Than Zero, a zeitgeist novel about amoral young people in Los Angeles ; the work he is most known for is his third novel, 1991's American Psycho.

Four of Ellis ' works have been made into films ; notably, Less Than Zero was rapidly adapted for screen, and a starkly different Less Than Zero film was released in 1987, and Mary Harron's adaptation of American Psycho was released to predominantly positive reviews in 2000.

2005's Lunar Park, a pseudo-memoir and ghost story, received positive reviews, and 2010's Imperial Bedrooms, marketed as a sequel to Less Than Zero, continues in this vein.

Ellis ' first novel, Less Than Zero, a tale of disaffected, rich teenagers of Los Angeles, was praised by critics and sold well ( 50, 000 copies in its first year ).

It contains vignettes of wayward Los Angeles characters ranging from rock stars to vampires, mostly written while Ellis was in college, and so has more in common with the style of Less Than Zero.

Less frequently, the adjective can take this meaning without a qualifier, as in " American Spanish dialects and pronunciation differ by country ", or the name of the Organization of American States.

The principle most likely finds its origins in similar concepts, such as Occam's razor, Leonardo da Vinci's " Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication ", Mies Van Der Rohe's " Less is more ", or Antoine de Saint Exupéry's " It seems that perfection is reached not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away ".

It is featured in several music videos, including Marilyn Manson's " Mobscene ", the 2002 music video to Elvis Presley vs. JXL remix of " A Little Less Conversation ", the 2007 music video to Christina Aguilera's song " Candyman ", the 2008 video release from Millencolin ; Detox and the music videos to Movits!

A modified proposal, " Mars for Less ", was developed by Grant Bonin, and has been adopted as the design reference mission for a new umbrella group of advocates, the MarsDrive consortium.

The group also covered music by well known songwriters such as the song " One Less Bell to Answer ", written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and the songs and music of Jimmy Webb, who penned their hit " Up, Up and Away ", including an entire recording of Webb songs called The Magic Garden.

The group came back for the last fifteen minutes of the show and sang their hits " Up, Up and Away ", " One Less Bell to Answer ", " Stoned Soul Picnic ", " Wedding Bell Blues ", and finished up with " Aquarius / Let the Sunshine In ".
