* December 17 – Elvis Costello makes his American television début on Saturday Night Live, but is banned after substituting the scheduled performance of " Less than Zero " with " Radio, Radio " instead.
In 1987, Downey played Julian Wells, a drug-addicted rich boy whose life rapidly spirals out of his control, in the film version of the Bret Easton Ellis novel Less Than Zero.
Though Ellis made his debut at 21 with the controversial 1985 bestseller Less Than Zero, a zeitgeist novel about amoral young people in Los Angeles ; the work he is most known for is his third novel, 1991's American Psycho.
