Most local governors in the Tang empire recognized the new Later Liang emperor as their emperor, with the exceptions of Li Keyong the military governor of Hedong Circuit ( 河東, headquartered in modern Taiyuan, Shanxi ), who carried the title of Prince of Jin ; Li Maozhen the military governor of Fengxiang Circuit ( 鳳翔, headquartered in modern Baoji, Shaanxi ), who carried the title of Prince of Qi ; Yang Wo, who carried the title of Prince of Hongnong ( each of whom claimed continued loyalty to the defunct Tang Dynasty but are generally viewed as independent states from this point on ); and Wang Jian the military governor of Xichuan Circuit ( 西川, headquartered in modern Chengdu, Sichuan ), who carried the title of Prince of Shu ( and who soon thereafter declared his own state of Former Shu as its emperor ).

In 902, Zhu Jichang was serving as an officer under Zhu Quanzhong, who was then sieging his rival Li Maozhen the military governor of Fengxiang Circuit ( 鳳翔, headquartered in modern Baoji, Shaanxi ), at Fengxiang's capital Fengxiang Municipality.

Zhu Jichang and fellow officer Liu Zhijun, however, opposed, pointing out that Li Maozhen was in desperate straits.

At Zhu Jichang's suggestion, Zhu Quanzhong decided to try trickery — and asked for a volunteer soldier to try to trick Li Maozhen into engaging the Xuanwu army.

Ma then informed Li Maozhen that Zhu Quanzhong had already left, leaving only about 10, 000 ill soldiers to pretend to be still putting up a siege, and that even they would depart that night.

He suggested that Li Maozhen attack the Xuanwu camp.

Li Maozhen agreed and attacked — and his army immediately fell into a trap set by the Xuanwu army, suffering large losses.

From this point on, Li Maozhen, while not surrendering immediately, began to negotiate with Zhu Quanzhong for peace, promising to give the emperor to him ( which occurred eventually in spring 903 ).

Its only ruler was Li Maozhen, who later submitted to Later Tang Dynasty.

A newly-built and young defensive line, Chinese internationals such as Su Maozhen and Li Xiaopeng, newly-introduced foreign players such as Paulista and Luis Romero, also contributed greatly to team.

Also during this period, Capp was working at night on samples for the strip that would eventually become Li ' l Abner.

* While engaged in a war with the Mongols, the Song Chinese official Li Zengbo writes in his Kozhai Zagao, Xugaohou that the city of Qingzhou is manufacturing one to two thousand strong iron-cased gunpowder bomb shells a month, dispatching to Xiangyang and Yingzhou about ten to twenty thousand such bombs at a time.

The Tang Dynasty navy had several different ship types at its disposal to engage in naval warfare, these ships described by Li Quan in his Taipai Yinjing ( Canon of the White and Gloomy Planet of War ) of 759.

In August 195, Emperor Xian fled the tyranny of Li Jue at Chang ' an and made a year long hazardous journey east in search of supporters.

( Zhu Quanzhong had initiated the siege after the powerful eunuchs, led by Han Quanhui, an ally of Li Maozhen's, forcibly seized then-reigning Emperor Zhaozong and took him from the imperial capital Chang ' an to Fengxiang after they became apprehensive that Emperor Zhaozong and the chancellor Cui Yin were about to slaughter the eunuchs.

Zhu Quanzhong, however, was concerned about Li Maozhen's strategy of refusing to engage the Xuanwu troops and putting up a strong defense at Fengxiang.

( After Li Maozhen's death in 924, his son Li Congyan would continue to govern Fengxiang until 926, when he was removed by the Later Tang's Emperor Zhuangzong, although he would serve two later stints as governor of Fengxiang.

With Emperor Dezong beginning to become paranoid about generals having too much power by this point, it was soon thereafter that rumors spread by Shang and Li's political enemy Zhang Yanshang, then a chancellor, made Emperor Dezong suspicious of Li Sheng, who was then the military governor of Fengxiang Circuit ( 鳳翔, in modern Baoji, Shaanxi ).

DNA analysis carried out amongst the modern Li population indicate a close relationship with populations in mainland southern China and in particular Guangxi province.

Recent portrayals of prefects in modern popular culture include Jet Li ’ s portrayal of the nameless prefect in the movie Hero.

Several western sources reported that the Qing dynasty Imperial Chinese military under the direction of Li Hongzhang acquired " Electric torpedoes ", which were deployed in numerous waterways along with fortresses and numerous other modern military weapons acquired by China.

These included the modern martial arts action movies, featuring physical acrobatics and dangerous stunt work, of Jackie Chan and his stunt team as well as Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao ; the wire fu and wuxia films of Tsui Hark, Yuen Woo-Ping, Jet Li and Donnie Yen ; the gun fu, heroic bloodshed and Triad films of John Woo, Ringo Lam and Chow Yun-Fat ; and the girls with guns films of Moon Lee and Michelle Yeoh.

Politically, Li opposed the modern economic reforms pioneered by Zhao Ziyang throughout Zhao's years of public service.

Some modern scholars believe that, contrary to popular belief, it contains not only the writings of the original author, but also commentary and clarifications from later military philosophers, such as Li Quan and Du Mu.

Important modern Chinese linguists include Y. R. Chao, Luo Changpei, Li Fanggui and Wang Li.

Leading contemporary visual artists include Ai Weiwei, Cai Guoqiang, Cai Xin, Fang Lijun, Huang Yan, Huang Yong Ping, Kong Bai Ji, Lu Shengzhong, Ma Liuming, Ma Qingyun, Qiu Shihua, Song Dong, Li Wei, Christine Wang, Wang Guangyi, Wang Qingsong, Wenda Gu, Xu Bing, Yang Zhichao, Zhan Wang, Zheng Lianjie, Zhang Dali, Zhang Xiaogang, Zhang Huan, Zhu Yu, Yan Lei, Ma Kelu, Ding Fang, Shang Yang, Wei, Ligang ( modern calligraphist ), Yue Min Jun, Zheng Fan Zhi, Liu Fengzhi, and Zhang Yue.

Throughout its history, the university has educated and hosted many prominent modern Chinese thinkers, including figures such as: Lu Xun, Mao Zedong, Gu Hongming, Hu Shih, Li Dazhao, and Chen Duxiu.

On November 27, 1918, Chen started another magazine, the Weekly Review ( 每週評論 ) with Li Dazhao ( 李大釗 ) in order to criticize the politics of his time in a more direct way and to promote democracy, science, and modern literature.

After a year long siege of the Southern Tang capital, modern Nanjing, Li Houzhu surrendered, in 975 ; and, he and his family were taken as captives to the Song capital at present-day Kaifeng.

A 1999 study undertaken by Chinese geneticist Jin Li showed that the genetic diversity of modern Chinese people is well within that of the whole world population, which suggests there was no inter-breeding between modern human immigrants to East Asia and Homo erectus, such as Peking Man, and that the Chinese are descended from Africa, like all other modern humans, in accordance with the recent single-origin hypothesis.

Tang poetry has since developed an on-going influence on world literature and modern and quasi-modern poetry ; for instance, as in the case of Li Bai ( also known as Li Po ) whose modern influence extends as far as Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde and Beat poetry.

And the dean Li Shouheng, who was one of the main founders of China's modern chemical engineering, was pointed to be the first president of ZJUT.
