In 1973, Harvard's Godfrey Lowell Cabot Science Library was named in his honor.

While at Lowell, Young actively participated in the National Education Association, attending and speaking at its conferences, including giving a speech entitled " The Use of a Library " at the association's conference in Los Angeles in 1899, arguing for greater cooperation between public schools and public libraries.

A few months before Turner's death in 1930, the Lowell Observatory announced the discovery of a new minor planet, and an eleven-year-old Oxford schoolgirl, Venetia Burney, proposed the name Pluto for it to her grandfather Falconer Madan, who was retired from the Bodleian Library, Madan passed the name to Turner, who cabled it to colleagues at the Lowell Observatory in the United States.

At exactly 7: 00 PM on January 15, 1953 WLTI, 550 AM began broadcasting on carrier current over the electrical power wires ( not airwaves ) to the dorms of the Lowell Textile Institute ( now UMass Lowell ), specifically to Eames and Smith Hall, and the Alumni Library on the University's North Campus.

Crane donated the bells to Harvard University and they were installed in the main tower of Harvard's Lowell House and at the Harvard Business School's Baker Library.

The design of the 18th-century Radcliffe Observatory in Oxford, England, is based on the Tower of the Winds, as is the mausoleum of the founder of the Greek National Library Panayis Vagliano at West Norwood Cemetery, London.
