Ireland started eighth, took the lead when the engine in Stirling Moss ' Lotus failed, and finished 4. 3 seconds ahead of American Dan Gurney.

It was a race of milestones: Innes Ireland's only career win, the first win for Team Lotus, and the first American Grand Prix to turn a profit, ensuring its return in 1962.

Damp and misty conditions on Saturday prohibited anyone improving their Friday time, so the top six were Clark in the Lotus, Ginther and Hill's BRM's, American Dan Gurney in a Porsche, Brabham, and McLaren's Cooper.

Clark eventually clocked a 1: 15. 0 on lap 70 for the fastest lap of the race, and eased off from his biggest lead of 17 seconds to take the second consecutive American Grand Prix win for Team Lotus.

Hingley formed a new band, The Lovers, along with Jerry Kelly of The Lotus Eaters ( the band later featured Steve and Paul Hanley of The Fall ), while Boon formed The Clint Boon Experience, releasing a string of singles on his own Artful label.

He played in progressive rock band, Lotus including at the Myponga Festival in January – February 1971.

They had another side project, Crop Circles, that was a collaboration with another Italian band, Lotus Omega and with that project they released 2 singles, Full Mental Jackpot & Lunar Civilization both released in 1997 on Auracle Recordings and also finalized an album in 1998, " Tetrahedron " that was finally released only in 2008 on DAT Records.

After touring with Insane Clown Posse and contributing to the band Dark Lotus, he set up his own record label, Billion Dollar Ballers.
