Not only were Chandler's novels turned into major noirs — Murder, My Sweet ( 1944 ; adapted from Farewell, My Lovely ), The Big Sleep ( 1946 ), and Lady in the Lake ( 1947 )— he was an important screenwriter in the genre as well, producing the scripts for Double Indemnity, The Blue Dahlia ( 1946 ), and Strangers on a Train ( 1951 ).

Today, Chandler's creation, private eye Philip Marlowe — who appears, for example, in his novels The Big Sleep ( 1939 ) and Farewell, My Lovely ( 1940 ) — has achieved cult status and has also been made the topic of literary seminars at universities round the world, whereas on first publication Chandler's novels were seen as little more than cheap entertainment for the uneducated masses.

The only official recordings they made — which provided the songs for the last Easybeats single — was the rocking " St Louis " ( presaging their later work with AC / DC ), and the B-side " Can't Find Love ", recorded in April at Olympic Studios with Ray Singer, a former member of UK band Nirvana, who had made a name for himself as a producer with Peter Sarstedt's " Where Do You Go To ( My Lovely )".

In 1944, Dick Powell played the part of the hard-boiled detective in a classic film noir which was alternatively entitled Murder, My Sweet and Farewell, My Lovely — two years before Humphrey Bogart was offered the role of Philip Marlowe in 1946 for The Big Sleep.

The Kingdom of Lovely is a partly Internet-based micronation that claims as its territory an East London flat owned — and once lived in — by its creator and ruler, the comic writer Danny Wallace.

It also served as the hub of the Pacific aerial network, supporting transient aircraft ferrying troops and supplies to — and evacuating wounded from — the forward areas — a role it would reprise during the Korean and Vietnam wars and earning it the official nickname " America's Bridge Across the Pacific ".

2003 saw the three surviving members of MC5 — Kramer, bassist Michael Davis, and drummer Dennis Thompson — performing as the MC5 at the 100 Club in London with Fred " Sonic " Smith's place temporarily being taken by Nicke Andersson of The Hellacopters, vocal chores at that time being filled variously by David Vanian of The Damned, Lemmy of Motörhead, Ian Astbury of The Cult, and singer Kate O ' Brien, as well as seeing Charles Moore and Buzzy Jones reprise their roles in the brass section from the High Time album.

After the broadcast of March 31, 1940 — a reprise of Jane Eyre, after Welles's suggestion of Alice Adams was not accepted — Welles and Campbell parted amicably.

Literature is, of course, littered with sequels — its Rabbits and Bechs ; its Zuckermans and Kepeshes — but this is not, in the main, Jones ’ s idea of a reprise.

Ike Eisenmann, Kim Richards, and Denver Pyle reprise their roles as Tony, Tia, and Uncle Bené — humanoid extraterrestrials with special powers including telepathy and telekinesis.

* In one of Hollywood's most unique reprise roles, Kelly played Danny McGuire again — 36 years later — in 1980's Xanadu.

for a proposed national UK tour, but the play was shelved when Howerd was offered a chance by Larry Gelbart to reprise his role as Pseudolus in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum at the Piccadilly Theatre in London's West End.

His plot thoroughly unraveled, Pseudolus appears to be in deep trouble — but Erronius, completing his third circuit of the Roman hills, shows up fortuitously to discover that Miles Gloriosus and Philia are wearing matching rings which mark them as his long-lost children.

Philia weds Hero ; Pseudolus gets his freedom and the lovely slave girl Gymnasia ; Gloriosus receives twin courtesans to replace Philia ; Erronius gets his children, and a happy ending prevails for all — except for poor Senex, stuck with his shrewish wife Domina.

The first Latin allusion is in Plautus's Pseudolus, dated to 191 BC, in which a cook, describing the cuisine of his inferiors, compares its action to that of the striges — i. e., disemboweling a hapless victim.

Hysterium, desperate to keep him out of the house where his master is bathing, tells the old man that his house has become haunted — a story seemingly confirmed by the sound of Senex singing in his bath.

With the ruse thus revealed, the main characters run for their lives, resulting in a madcap chase across the stage with both Miles and Senex pursuing all three " Philia " s ( Domina, Hysterium, and the actual Philia — all wearing identical white robes and veils ).

* " I'm Calm " — Hysterium

The 1963 production and its 1986 revival were staged at the Strand Theatre and the Piccadilly Theatre respectively, and featured Frankie Howerd starring as Pseudolus, Kenneth Connor as Hysterium, ' Monsewer ' Eddie Gray as Senex, Jon Pertwee as Marcus Lycus and Leon Greene as Miles Gloriosus.

In 2004 there was a limited-run revival at the Royal National Theatre starring Desmond Barrit as Pseudolus, Philip Quast as Miles Gloriosus, Hamish McColl as Hysterium and Isla Blair as Domina ( who had previously played Philia in the 1963 production ).

The musical was also revived with great success in 1996, starring Nathan Lane as Pseudolus ( replaced later in the run by Whoopi Goldberg and also by David Alan Grier ), Mark Linn-Baker as Hysterium, Ernie Sabella as Lycus, Jim Stanek as Hero, Lewis J. Stadlen as Senex, and Cris Groenendaal as Miles Gloriosus.

The cast featured Richard Kind as Pseudolus, Joel Blum as Senex, Stephen DeRosa as Marcus Lycus, Sean McCall as Hysterium, and Steve Wilson as Miles Gloriosus.

In the center is the house of Senex, who lives there with wife Domina, son Hero, and several slaves, including head slave Hysterium and the musical's main character Pseudolus.

Pseudolus convinces Hysterium to help him by dressing in drag and pretending to be Philia, " dead " from the plague.

She also appeared as Philia in the national tour of " Forum ," starring Jerry Lester ( Pseudolus ), with Paul Hartman ( Senex ), Erik Rhodes ( Marcus Lycus ), Arnold Stang ( Hysterium ) and Edward Everett Horton ( Erronius ), produced by Martin Tahse.
