Major Orde Wingate, later to gain fame in Burma with the Chindits was a major mover behind the Ethiopian " patriots " as they were referred to by the British.
Under the command of Major General Orde Wingate, the Chindits in 1944 penetrated deep behind enemy lines in an attempt to gain intelligence, break communications and cause confusion.
During the early part of 1944, the Army also had loose operational control over the American and Chinese Northern Combat Area Command, and the Chindits operating behind enemy lines under Major General Orde Wingate.
