Julie Manet became the subject for many of her mother's paintings and a book of her memoirs Growing Up with the Impressionists: The Diary of Julie Manet, was published in 1987.

Elected in 1862 as chairman of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, he was surrounded by a committee of important painters: Eugène Delacroix, Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, Édouard Manet, Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse and Gustave Doré.

They had a great influence on many artists, notably Édouard Manet, Pierre Bonnard, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Edgar Degas, Paul Gauguin, Félix Vallotton and Mary Cassatt.

Instead of a smooth idealised nude, as in Alexandre Cabanel's La naissance de Vénus ( also painted in 1863 ), Manet painted a woman whose nakedness is starkly emphasized by the harsh light.

150 meters away, across elegant Libertador Avenue, is the el Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes ( MNBA ), which holds in its permanent collection priceless works of art by Argentine artists such as Berni and Seguí, as well as works by European masters such as Titian, Goya, Rembrandt, Gauguin, and Manet.

His friends included Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, Charles Baudelaire, Berthe Morisot, James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Frédéric Bazille, and Puvis de Chavannes, and he was a regular in the group that gathered at the Café Guerbois in Paris.

She became the sister-in-law of her friend and colleague, Édouard Manet, when she married his brother, Eugène.

Meanwhile, in 1868 Morisot became acquainted with Édouard Manet.

Manet mistook one of Morisot's self-criticisms as an invitation to add his corrections, which he did, much to Morisot's dismay.

Although traditionally Manet has been related as the master and Morisot as the follower, there is evidence that their relationship was a reciprocating one.

She also drew Manet into the circle of painters who soon became known as the Impressionists.

Monet was in Paris for several years and met other young painters who would become friends and fellow impressionists ; among them was Édouard Manet.

He soon reestablished his friendships with the other Impressionist artists of his earlier group, including Cézanne, Monet, Manet, Renoir, and Degas.

Manet depicted many scenes of the streets of Paris in his works.

Instead of choosing the traditional natural view as background for an outdoor scene, Manet opts for the iron grating which " boldly stretches across the canvas " The only evidence of the train is its white cloud of steam.

Manet painted several boating subjects in 1874.

Boating, now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, exemplifies in its conciseness the lessons Manet learned from Japanese prints, and the abrupt cropping by the frame of the boat and sail adds to the immediacy of the image.

In 1875, a book-length French edition of Edgar Allan Poe's " The Raven " included lithographs by Manet and translation by Mallarmé.

In 1881, with pressure from his friend Antonin Proust, the French government awarded Manet the Légion d ' honneur.

After the death of his father in 1862, Manet married Suzanne Leenhoff in 1863.

Leenhoff initially had been employed by Manet's father, Auguste, to teach Manet and his younger brother piano.
