This body, the International Commission on Radiation Units and Measurements ( ICRU ), came into being at the Second ICR in Stockholm in 1928 under the chairmanship Manne Siegbahn and at their first meeting proposed that one unit X-Ray dose should be defined as the quantity of X-rays that would produce one esu of charge in one cubic centimetre of dry air at 0 ° C and a standard atmosphere.

Kai Manne Börje Siegbahn ( 20 April 1918 – 20 July 2007 ) was a Swedish physicist.

Siegbahn was born in Lund, Sweden, son of Manne Siegbahn the 1924 physics Nobel Prize winner.

Karl Manne Georg Siegbahn ForMemRS ( 3 December 1886 – 26 September 1978 ) was a Swedish physicist who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1924 " for his discoveries and research in the field of X-ray spectroscopy ".

In 1988 this was renamed the Manne Siegbahn Institute ( MSI ).

The institute research groups have been reorganized since, but the name lives on in the Manne Siegbahn Laboratory hosted by Stockholm University.

Originally defined by the Swedish physicist Manne Siegbahn ( 1886 – 1978 ) in 1925, the x unit could not at that time be measured directly ; the definition was instead made in terms of the spacing between planes of the calcite crystals used in the measuring apparatus.

Shelly Manne ( June 11, 1920 – September 26, 1984 ), born Sheldon Manne in New York City, was an American jazz drummer.

Manne frequently collaborated with Mancini in television as well, such as in the series Peter Gunn ( 1958 – 1961 ) and Mr. Lucky ( 1959 – 1960 ).

Although Mancini developed such a close partnership with Manne that he was using him for practically all his scores and other music at this time, the drummer still found time to perform on movie soundtracks and in TV shows with music by others, including the series Richard Diamond ( music by Pete Rugolo, 1959 – 1960 ), and Checkmate ( music by John Williams, 1959 – 1962 ), and the film version of Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story ( 1961 ).

Notable examples of later scores that Manne wrote himself and also performed in are, for the movies, Young Billy Young, 1969, and, for television, Daktari, 1966 – 1969.

Nearly a decade later he recorded At Shelly's Manne-Hole ( 1968 ), an exciting live trio session with bassist Ray Brown and drummer Shelly Manne, in which four of the compositions were improvised on the spot.

In the late 1950s, Manne began to compose his own film scores, such as that for The Proper Time ( 1959 ), with the music also played by his own group, Shelly Manne and His Men, and issued on a Contemporary LP.

Stan Getz was the last to be featured ( at a briefly occupied second location ), when, late in 1973, Manne was forced to close the club for financial reasons.

Such major players as Maynard Ferguson ( whose high-note acrobatics set new standards ), Shorty Rogers, Milt Bernhart, John Graas, Art Pepper, Bud Shank, Bob Cooper, Laurindo Almeida, Shelly Manne, and June Christy were part of this remarkable project, but from a commercial standpoint, it was really impossible.

Under Lester Koenig's supervision, Contemporary recorded such artists as Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman, Cecil Taylor, Art Farmer, Benny Golson, the Curtis Counce Group ( featuring Harold Land, Jack Sheldon, Carl Perkins and Frank Butler ), Ben Webster, Benny Carter, Chet Baker, Art Pepper, Phineas Newborn, Jr., Woody Shaw, Shelly Manne, Hampton Hawes, Barney Kessel and Leroy Vinnegar.
