On 19 June 1250, following the canonisation of Malcolm's wife Margaret by Pope Innocent IV, Margaret's remains were disinterred and placed in a reliquary.

* Anne of Brittany ( 1477 – 1514 ) — they were married by proxy in Rennes on 18 December 1490, but the contract was dissolved by the Pope in early 1492, by which time Anne had already been forced by the French King, Charles VIII ( the fiancé of Maximilian's daughter Margaret of Austria ) to repudiate the contract and marry him instead.

During this time, Louis XI did all he could to prevent the marriage, demanding that the Pope refuse to give a dispensation for the marriage ( the pair were cousins in the fourth degree ), promising trade favours to the English, undermining Edward's credit with the international bankers to prevent him being able to pay for Margaret's dowry, encouraging a Lancastrian invasion of Wales, and slandering Margaret, claiming that she was not a virgin and had borne a bastard son.

Pope Pius XI in his encyclical letter Miserentissimus Redemptor ( on May 8, 1928 ) affirmed the Church's position with respect to Saint Margaret Mary's visions of Jesus Christ by stating that Jesus had " manifested Himself " to Saint Margaret and had " promised her that all those who rendered this honor to His Heart would be endowed with an abundance of heavenly graces.

When that calendar was revised in 1969, the individual celebrations of St Barbara, St Catherine of Alexandria, St Christopher, and St Margaret of Antioch were dropped, but in 2004 Pope John Paul II reinstated the 25 November optional memorial of Catherine of Alexandria, whose voice was heard by Saint Joan of Arc.
