Marietta Alboni ( 6 March 1826 – 23 June 1894 ) was a renowned Italian contralto opera singer.

The rich contract was signed by Rossini himself, " on behalf of Eustachio Alboni ", father of Marietta, who was still a minor.

With Mapleson's Italian Opera he joined some of the 19th century's most celebrated singers, including Thérèse Tietjens, Marietta Alboni, Antonio Giuglini and Zelia Trebelli.

As the practice of castrating boy singers faded, composers created heroic male roles in the mezzo-soprano range, where singers such as Marietta Alboni and Rosamunda Pisaroni specialised in such roles.

He served until 1823, when he retired due to ill health and returned to Marietta.
