One of his masses for six voices, the Missa Ave sanctissima Maria, is a six-voice canon, a technically difficult feat reminiscent of some of the work of Ockeghem.

Peñalosa was evidently fond of contrapuntal puzzles and canons, as evidenced by the quodlibet, and by the Agnus Dei of his Missa Ave Maria peregrina, which combines a plainsong tune with a retrograde ( backwards ) version of a famous secular song by Hayne van Ghizeghem.

Among the music Helmut Hochstein lists as being composed for Venice, are to be found four oratorios: " Isacco figura del Redentore ", " La Betulia liberata ", " Joas ", " Juda proditor "; some numbers in a collection of solo motets called Modulamina Sacra ; one Missa breve in F major with its Credo in D major, probably a second mass in G major, 47 one Te Deum, and five psalms.
