Morpheus, another character of the movie, identifies the events of the movie as being set in the years around 2199.

The Sandmans main character is Dream, the Lord of Dreams ( also known, to various characters throughout the series, as Morpheus, Oneiros, the Shaper, the Shaper of Form, Lord of the Dreaming, the Dream King, Dream-Sneak, Dream Cat, Murphy, Kai ' ckul, and Lord L ' Zoril ), who is essentially the anthropomorphic personification of dreams.

Some players argued against the death of the character Morpheus as the Matrix now provides an " Emergency Jack-Out " upgrade for redpills, eliminating the permanent death that previous redpills experienced if killed within the Matrix before the Truce.

She does not say much, and consequently appears brusque, but her speech at Morpheus ' wake in The Wake reveals her sympathy and feeling for him.

At one point Delirium briefly appears as hundreds of colorful fishes similar to Morpheus appearing as a cat or fox.
