His importance to early fandom is chronicled in his 1974 book The Immortal Storm by Sam Moskowitz and in the 1977 book The Futurians by Damon Knight. With Frederik Pohl and John Michel, 1938

As described in Isaac Asimov's autobiography In Memory Yet Green, the Futurians spun off from the Greater New York Science Fiction Club ( headed by Sam Moskowitz, later an influential SF editor and historian ) over ideological differences, with the Futurians wishing to take a more overt political stance.

The manifesto led chairman Sam Moskowitz to ban several prominent members of the Futurians from that convention.

In addition to its groundbreaking role as the first of its kind, the convention was noteworthy for the exclusion of a number of politicized Futurians ( those excluded were Wollheim, Pohl, John Michel, Robert A. W. Lowndes and Jack Gillespie ) by convention chair Moskowitz, an event known to fannish historians as " The Great Exclusion Act.

The organization was founded by Moishe Rosen an ordained Baptist minister ( who was born Jewish and converted to Christianity at the age of 17 ) and Jhan Moskowitz an ordained Christian and Missionary Alliance minister and son of a holocaust survivor.

The first was a short-lived magazine in the early 1970s edited by Sam Moskowitz and published by Leo Margulies.

A Study in Scarlet was illustrated by Seymour Moskowitz for Classics Illustrated comics in 1953.

Formed in 1967 by Joseph Byrd, the band membership consisted of Joseph Byrd ( electronic music, electric harpsichord, organ, calliope, piano, and Durrett Electronic Music Synthesizer ); Dorothy Moskowitz ( lead vocals ); Gordon Marron ( electric violin, ring modulator ); Rand Forbes ( an early adopter of the fretless electric bass ), and Craig Woodson ( drums and percussion ).

The mathematical infrastructure and operational software were developed by Imre Csizmadia, Malcolm Harrison, Jules Moskowitz and Brian Sutcliffe.

The lobby group J Street has called on Ros-Lehtinen to return campaign contributions from Moskowitz, saying he " actively undermines the two-state solution and the foreign policy of the United States by funding illegal settlements in the occupied territories ".

In 2002, Mossman was the subject of a documentary film by Mark Moskowitz, Stone Reader, ( ISBN 156730334x ) which chronicled the director's attempt to resuscitate the acclaimed book and speak to its seemingly vanished author.

One future history piece, The Dam, was written in 1911 and appears in the Sam Moskowitz anthology, Science Fiction by Gaslight.

Daitch – Mokotoff Soundex ( D – M Soundex ) was developed in 1985 by genealogist Gary Mokotoff and later improved by genealogist Randy Daitch because of problems they encountered while trying to apply the Russell Soundex to Jews with Germanic or Slavic surnames ( such as Moskowitz vs. Moskovitz or Levine vs. Lewin ).

The feud theory was originally set forth in a fan press article, " The Kline-Burroughs War ," by Donald A. Wollheim ( Science Fiction News, November, 1936 ), and afterward given wider circulation by Sam Moskowitz in his book Explorers of the Infinite.

Ovington responded to the article by writing Walling and meeting at his apartment in New York City along with social worker Dr. Henry Moskowitz.

Price graduated from San Diego High School in 1931, attended San Diego State University in 1932 and earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy and a law degree from the University of Southern California Law School in 1936 and 1938 respectively, by which time he had married his girlfriend Helen Moskowitz, the couple eloping to Las Vegas.

Their self-titled LP, produced by David Rubinson ( who had been known to Byrd and Moskowitz prior ), was recorded for Columbia Records in late 1967.

Frederik Pohl, in his autobiography The Way the Future Was, said that the origins of the Futurians started with the Science Fiction League founded by Hugo Gernsback in 1934, the New York City local chapter of which was called the " Brooklyn Science Fiction League " or BSFL, and headed by G. G. Clark.

At one point in the earliest 1940s, approximately half of all the pulp sf and fantasy magazines in the U. S. were being edited by Futurians: Frederik Pohl at the Popular Publications offshoot Fictioneers, Inc. ( Astonishing Stories and Super-Science Stories ); Robert Lowndes at Columbia Publications, most notably with Science Fiction and Future Fiction ( though through the decade to come, Lowndes's responsibilities would expand to other types of fiction magazine in the chain ), and Donald Wollheim at the very marginal Albing Publications with the short-lived, micro-budgeted Cosmic Stories and Stirring Science Stories ( Wollheim soon moved on to Avon Books ; Doë " Leslie Perri " Baumgardt also worked on a romance fiction title for Albing ).

At the time the Futurians were formed, Donald Wollheim was strongly attracted by communism and believed that followers of science fiction " should actively work for the realization of the scientific world-state as the only genuine justification for their activities and existence ".

In 1983, Cockrum produced The Futurians, first as a graphic novel ( Marvel Graphic Novel # 9 ), and then as an ongoing series published by Lodestone Comics.

In 1995, Aardwolf Publishing also printed the " missing " issue as Futurians # 0, with a new five-page story by Cockrum and author Clifford Meth.

Futurians has recently been reprinted in France by Semic Comics.
