The Tring bypass was built in 1973 as the A41 ( M ) motorway, the first section of the Watford-Tring Motorway, although this section was downgraded on 6 July 1987.

Several miles to the west of the town is the A1 ( M ) Motorway.

The start point of the Great North Run is on the A167 ( M ) Central Motorway in Newcastle.

The A167 continues through Gateshead across the Tyne Bridge into Newcastle upon Tyne, where it becomes the A167 ( M ) Newcastle Central Motorway for a short distance.

The 1974 novel Concrete Island by J. G. Ballard was set in a junction between the Westway and M4 Motorway.

A twisted adaptation of Robinson Crusoe, the story's protagonist, Robert Maitland, a wealthy architect, finds himself stranded in a manmade ' island ' ( a section of fenced-off wasteland in the middle of a motorway intersection ) between the Westway and an imagined spur of the M4 Motorway in west London, and is forced to survive on only what is in his crashed Jaguar and what he is able to find.

Osterley lies north of the A4 ( The Great West Road ) and extends further northwards beyond the M4 Motorway.

The M60 motorway, Manchester Ring Motorway, or Manchester Orbital, is an orbital motorway circling Greater Manchester, a metropolitan county in North West England.

To the east, Shepherd's Bush is bounded by the physical barrier to movement of the West London railway line and the grade-separated West Cross Route ( part of the aborted 1960s London Motorway Box scheme ); the Holland Park Roundabout and the small Addison Bridge to the south are the only ways to cross this barrier from Shepherds Bush.

City Campus, located in the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, is divided into City Campus East and City Campus West by the city's Central Motorway and linked by a £ 4million bridge which in 2006 was officially opened by the former Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Digby Jones.

Bessacarr Grange is a relatively new area, and is situated the other side of the M18 Motorway from West Bessacarr.

There has also been a proposal for an extension of the M4 East known as the " Inner-West Motorway ", comprising a tunnel running underneath the Inner West of Sydney and connecting to the M5 East at St Peters.

The villages of West Haddon and Crick were by-passed by the A428 main road from Rugby to Northampton when the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal ( DIRFT ) was built in 1996 near junction 18 of the M1 Motorway, miles west of the village.

West Midlands is a partner, alongside Staffordshire Police and West Mercia Police, in the Central Motorway Police Group.

The West Motorway ( Vestmotorvejen ) runs through the former municipality and onto the Great Belt Bridge ( Storebæltsbroen ), which spans the Great Belt.

The M1 motorway | M1 Motorway was built alongside the West Coast Main Line in Northamptonshire.

Its essential section, the Slovenian Motorway Cross, which is part of the Trans-European Road network, was completed in October 2011.

The route was not certain and there were differences between the plans proposed by the Greater London Council and the Ministry of Transport, however the section may have run east alongside the Regent's Canal and the north side of Victoria Park to an interchange at Hackney Wick where it would have connected to the North Cross and East Cross Routes at the north-east corner of the Ringway 1 ( London Motorway Box ) of the London Ringways plan.

The South Cross Route, one side of the London Motorway Box the innermost ring road of the unbuilt 1960s London Ringways plan, would have paralleled the South London Line between Wandsworth Road and Peckham Rye stations.

South of the junction the motorway would have headed through Cricklewood on an elevated roadway to meet the North Cross Route section of the London Motorway Box ( Ringway 1 ) at an elevated Y-shaped junction.

On 27 December 2006, a syndicate of 16 Australian and International banks appointed the insolvency firm KordaMentha as receivers and managers for Cross City Motorway Limited after the project accrued debts exceeding A $ 560 Million.

The Cross City Motorway has since promised that toll evaders will be pursued.

In September 2010, the Old Gateway Motorway, which runs past the site of the original Eagle Farm Airport, was renamed Southern Cross Way.

It is connected to the rest of Switzerland by way of the Route Suisse, the A1 Motorway and the railways of the Arc Lémanique.

The F1 was the Warringah Freeway, the F2 reserved for the Castlereagh Freeway, a corridor similar to today's M2 Hills Motorway, the F3 is the Sydney Newcastle Freeway, the F4 was the western part of today's M4 Western Motorway ( formerly Western Freeway ), the F5 was the freeway section of National Highway 31, the F6 is the Southern Freeway, the F7 was reserved for a corridor similar to today's Cahill Expressway, Eastern Distributor and Bondi Junction Bypass and the F8 was a section of Wollongong's Northern Distributor, now part of State Route 60.

Exceptions were State Route 31 ( which replaced Metroad 5 when the South Western Motorway was extended easterly ; Metroad 5 was a replacement of the metropolitan part of National Highway 31 ) and state route 60 ( which is in Wollongong ).

There were initially six metroads: Metroad 1 replaced National Route 1 within the metropolitan area, Metroad 2 replaced parts of State Routes 28 and 30 ( and was subsequently absorbed by the M2 Hills Motorway ), Metroad 3 replaced State Route 33 ( once Ring Road 3 ), Metroad 4 replaced the F4 Freeway and the metropolitan part of National Route 32, Metroad 5 replaced part of the metropolitan part of National Highway 31 and Metroad 7 replaced State Route 77.
