Those familiar with musical settings of the Requiem Mass — such as those by Mozart or Verdi — will be aware of the important place " Dies Iræ " held in the liturgy.
The Requiem Mass is notable for the large number of musical compositions that it has inspired, including settings by Mozart, Verdi, Dvořák, Fauré and Duruflé.
Famously, Mozart sets the " Kyrie " and " Christe " texts in his Requiem Mass as the two subjects of a double fugue.

This was " Entered according to act of Congress, in the year 1835, by C. Bradlee, in the clerk's office of the District Court of Massachusetts ", according to the Newberry Library, which also says, " The theme is that used by Mozart for his piano variations, Ah, vous dirai-je, maman.
The original scores, which dated from 1804 when the composer was twelve, were found in the Library of Congress in Washington D. C. Often transcribed for string orchestra, these sonatas reveal the young composer's affinity for Haydn and Mozart, already showing signs of operatic tendencies, punctuated by frequent rhythmic changes and dominated by clear, songlike melodies.
The harp found its early orchestral use in concerti by many baroque and classical composers ( Handel, J. C. Bach, Mozart, Albrechtsberger, Schenck, Dussek, Spohr ) and in the opera houses of London, Paris and Berlin and most other capitals.

Critics have found it unremarkable, but the Symphony in C of the same year has been warmly praised by later commentators who have made favourable comparisons with Mozart and Schubert.
In some pieces by Haydn and Mozart, such as Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 16 in C, K. 545, the first subject group will be in the subdominant and then modulate back to tonic for the second subject group and coda.
But the added, structural variations recall Diabelli's waltz, not Bach or Mozart or Cramer, and clearly highlight its most unimaginative aspects, especially its repetition of the C major tonic chord with G emphasized as the high note and the static harmony thus created.
