Christopher Partridge of Lancaster University states that Applewhite and Nettles were similar to John Reeve and Lodowicke Muggleton, who founded Muggletonianism, a millennialist movement in medieval England.

The Muggletonians, named after Lodowicke Muggleton, were a small Protestant Christian movement which began in 1651 when two London tailors announced they were the last prophets foretold in the biblical Book of Revelation.

Reeve believed that he and his cousin, Lodowicke Muggleton, were the two witnesses spoken of in the third verse of the eleventh chapter of the Book of Revelation.

These principles derive from Lodowicke Muggleton, who would have added one other matter as being of equal importance, namely, that God takes no immediate notice of doings in this world.

There is also an account for a far older holiday meeting which Lodowicke Muggleton and his daughter, Sarah, attended in July 1682 at the Green Man pub in Holloway, then a popular rural retreat to the north of London.

Yet two persons, Lodowicke Muggleton and John Reeve, are appointed the Last Witnesses to fulfill the prophecy of Revelation 11: 3 where no distinction is drawn between one witness and the other.

" And I have given thee Lodowicke Muggleton to be thy mouth: at that very moment the holy spirit brought into my mind that scripture of Aaron given unto Moses.

" So, does John Reeve see himself on a different spiritual plane to Lodowicke " the mouth " Muggleton?

Whilst Reeve was alive, we have no evidence that anyone took Lodowicke Muggleton very seriously except as Reeve's ever-present sidekick.

However, there is no evidence that John Reeve and Lodowicke Muggleton felt in any way obliged to follow suit.

Lodowicke Muggleton ( 1609 – 1698 ) was an English plebeian religious thinker, who gave his name to Muggletonianism.

Lodowicke Muggleton was born at a house called Walnut Tree Yard on Bishopsgate Street ( now Bishopsgate ) in the City of London.

Lodowicke Muggleton was to be his mouth, as Aaron was to Moses.

John Reeve was 42, Lodowicke Muggleton 41.

Thomas Macaulay in his History of England ( 1849 ), describes Lodowicke Muggleton as " a mad tailor who wandered from pothouse to pothouse, tippling ale and denouncing eternal torments against all who refused to believe.

It is said that, on the death of John Reeve, there was a power-struggle between Lodowicke Muggleton and Laurence Clarkson ( or Claxton ) for leadership.

In a similar vein, Muggleton is reminded there is nothing in scripture foretelling the coming of one Lodowicke Muggleton, to which the reply is, " For, if there had been such a name written in scripture, many men would have named their sons Lodowicke Muggleton.

In 1832, some sixty Muggletonians subscribed to bring out a complete edition of The Miscellaneous Works of Reeve and Muggleton in 3 vols.

The programme featured Val Lehman, Sheila Florance, Amanda Muggleton and Carol Burns on their visit to the UK in 1990 and includes extensive footage of their on-stage interview with TV presenter Anna Soubry in which the cast members talk about their time " inside ".

Recent years have seen a reliance on weekend celebrity-hosted content and large cash prizes to entice listeners-the award of £ 110, 600 to Nicola Diss, the winner of the popular Magic Mystery Voices contest on 12 January 2006 was the largest cash prize given away on UK radio since 1999, a sum surpassed just a few months later by the prize collected by listener Dawn Muggleton in the Smooth Secret Song competition on London rival 102. 2 Smooth FM, scooping £ 118, 454 on 19 April 2006.

The setting for the cricket match between All Muggleton and Dingley Dell in Charles Dickens ' Pickwick Papers was based on an amalgamation of the grounds at West Malling and Maidstone.

Another large prize was awarded to Dawn Muggleton on the 19 April 2006, however-who correctly identified the ' Smooth Secret Song ' ( Diana Ross ' My Old Piano ), winning £ 118, 454 at the end of a contest that had run for several months, which was, at that time, the biggest cash prize awarded on UK radio since 1999.

Understandably, such experiences left a lasting impression on Muggleton.

The next task of Reeve, Muggleton and Thomas Turner ( the latter presumably taken along for verification ) was to go pronounce sentence of eternal damnation on Thomas Tany for disobedience to the Third Commission.

Muggleton says that prophets come to impose their commission which lives on after them no matter what happens to the prophet himself.

Muggleton regarded these as boiling down to one issue ; whether God took notice of happenings on earth.

On doing so, Muggleton was remanded to Guildhall Court on a warrant of the Lord Chief Justice.

Lodowicke Muggleton died on 14 March 1697 ( 1698 new style ) aged 88.

On a visit to the British Museum, the Frost brothers were delighted to find a painting of Muggleton on display.

Lodowicke Muggleton wrote two commentaries on the Book of Revelation.

Muggleton seeks not only to explain the text of Revelation on its own terms but also to appropriate the text as a foundation for the Muggletonian faith.

Muggleton expressed doubts about the Book of Job but it is too much of a favourite to remove.

" Richard Farnesworth also taxes Muggleton about the failure of John Reeve and himself to live out their part from the book of Revelation.

Lodowicke Muggleton was aware that Revelation is not simply reportage of visions.

Even at their blasphemy trial in 1653, The Recorder of London, after examining John Reeve, turns to Muggleton and says, " Let Aaron speak ".

In " The Making of the English Working Class " E. P. Thompson says, " The Muggletonians ( or followers of Ludovic Muggleton ) were still preaching in the fields and parks of London at the end of the eighteenth century.

Eventually, the Sheriff of London, Sir John Peak was persuaded to release Muggleton for a payment of £ 100 cash down.

Muggleton was born in Stepney, London in 1951 and emigrated to Australia in 1974.

In 2010 Muggleton has appeared as ' Bette Davis ' in the one-woman show " Me & Jezebel " at the Mackay Entertainment Centre ( QLD ).
