The character of Beaker was introduced in the second season ; during the first season Bunsen hosted Muppet Labs by himself, but the writers soon realized that another character was necessary to show Bunsen's failings.

As well, a new opening theme was produced, featuring the main Muppet characters ( as well as Elmo and Grover ) in an animated environment, discovering the letters that spell " Plaza Sesamo ", produced by ToTuMa-Studios in Argentina.

On December 24, 2008, a German-produced, 45-minute Christmas special called Weihnachten mit Ernie und Bert aired, featuring Ernie, Bert, and an Anything Muppet Santa Claus.

In the 1990 Muppet Babies episode " At the Movies ", Baby Scooter has a conversation with Johnny 5, featuring footage from Short Circuit 2.

The show stuck closely to the Muppet Show format of various skits ( mostly featuring the show's human guest star ) interspersed with some sort of crisis occurring backstage.

While the company no longer owns any of The Muppets characters, the scenes featuring the fictional " Muppet Studios " in The Muppets were filmed at Jim Henson Studios.

In 1969, the first season of Sesame Street featured a sketch featuring two Muppet girls who are unsure of what to do, until they decide to sing a song, enter an unusual-looking short, shaggy-haired male Muppet character who begins singing " Mahna Mahna ", prompting the girls to join him.
