The fame which this publication acquired him led to his being engaged by Schütz and Christoph Wilhelm Hufeland to prepare an Allgemeines Repertorium der Literatur, published in 8 volumes ( Jena and Weimar, 1793 – 1809 ), which condensed the literary productions of 15 years ( 1785 – 1800 ), and included an account not merely of the books published during that period, but also of articles in periodicals and magazines, and even of the criticisms to which each book had been subjected.

Among the more extensive of his many literary undertakings were the critical periodicals — Hermes, the Literarisches Konversationsblatt ( afterwards the Blätter für literarische Unterhaltung ) and the Zeilgenossen, and some large historical and bibliographical works, such as Friedrich Ludwig Georg von Raumer's Geschichte der Hohenslaufen, and Friedrich Adolf Ebert's Allgemeines bibliographisches Lexikon.

Irenaeus ' works were first translated into English by John Keble and published in 1872 as part of the Library of the Fathers series.

D ' Agoult's other works include Lettres Républicaines in Esquisses morales et politiques ( 1849, collected articles ), Trois journées de la vie de Marie Stuart ( 1856 ), Florence et Turin ( 1862 ), Histoire des commencements de la république aux Pays-Bas ( 1872 ), " A Catholic Mother Speaks to Her Children " ( 1906, posthumously ) and Mes souvenirs ( 1877, posthumously ).

The city boomed in the second half of the 19th century as new railway tracks were built: the Kassa Oderberg Railway was finished in 1872 and the railway to Bratislava ( Pozsony in Hungarian ) in 1883, and new factories started to spring up, such as the drapery factory Slovena ( 1891 ) and the Považie chemical works ( 1892 ).
