In January 2006, the band recorded their 9th studio album, Earth to America, in Nassau, Bahamas at Compass Point Studios, with Terry Manning producing.

Joining them for recordings in Compass Point, Nassau, Belew played rhythm guitar on the sessions for the band's debut album as well as adding his trademark processed solos ( and even performing the entire instrumentation for the track " L ' Elephant ").

Their eponymous album, recorded mainly at the New York recording studio for which the band was named, with overdubs and mixing at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, reached the Top 20 in the UK and the Top 10 in the US.

Delicate Sound of Thunder is a Pink Floyd live double album which was recorded over five nights at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, New York in August 1988 and mixed at Abbey Road Studios in September 1988.

Subroc was struck and killed by a car in 1993 while attempting to cross the Nassau Expressway before the release of a second KMD album, titled Black Bastards.

According to Emerson, " everybody but me wanted to get the hell out of Nassau ... in the end I stuck the whole album together ... and sent it off to Atlantic ".

Although in 2011 Co-producer Alan Winstanley stated in the ' Guided Tour Of Madness ' boxed-set that a lot of the album was re-recorded in London when they returned from Nassau.

The Bahamas has a few notable industrial firms: the Freeport pharmaceutical firm, PFC Bahamas ( formerly Syntex ), which recently streamlined its production and was purchased by the Swiss pharmaceutical firm Roche ; the BORCO oil facility, also in Freeport, which transships oil in the region ; the Commonwealth Brewery in Nassau, which produces Heineken, Guinness, and Kalik beers ; and Bacardi Corp., which distills rum in Nassau for shipment to the U. S. and European markets.

In 1788, while part of the Province of Quebec ( 1763 – 1791 ), southern Ontario was divided into four districts: Hesse, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, and Nassau.

As a result of the Peace of Prague ( 1866 ), the German Confederation was dissolved ; Prussia annexed Schleswig, Holstein, Frankfurt, Hanover, Hesse-Kassel ( or Hesse-Cassel ), and Nassau ; and Austria promised not to intervene in German affairs.

It was formed from the northern part of the French Occupation Zone, which included parts of Bavaria ( the Rhenish Palatinate ), the southern parts of the Prussian Rhine Province ( including the District of Birkenfeld which formerly belonged to Oldenburg ), parts of the Prussian Province of Nassau ( see Hesse-Nassau ), and parts of Hesse-Darmstadt ( Rhinehessen on the western banks of the Rhine ); the constitution was legally confirmed by referendum on 18 May 1947.

Lutherans also witnessed the defection of the lords of the Palatinate ( 1560 ), Nassau ( 1578 ), Hesse-Kassel ( 1603 ) and Brandenburg ( 1613 ) to the new Calvinist faith.

A new Christian song made in the honour of the most noble lord, lord William Prince of Orange, count of Nassau, Patris Patriae ( Father of the Fatherland ), my merciful prince and lord.

After Wilhelmina died in 1837, William married Countess Henriette d ' Oultremont de Wégimont ( Maastricht, 28 February 1792 – Schloss Rahe, 26 October 1864 ), created Countess of Nassau, on 17 February 1841 in Berlin.

Illustrations for booklets, catalogs, posters ( particularly movie promotions ), sheet music, stamps, playing cards, and murals ( including " Yankee Doodle Dandy " and " God Bless the Hills ", which was completed in 1936 for the Nassau Inn in Princeton, New Jersey ) rounded out Rockwell's œuvre as an illustrator.

In 1696 Henry Every ( or Avery ), using the assumed name Henry Bridgeman, brought his ship Fancy, loaded with pirate's loot, into Nassau harbor.

At least 20 pirate captains used Nassau or other places in the Bahamas as a home port during this period, including Henry Jennings, Edward Teach ( Blackbeard ), Benjamin Hornigold and Stede Bonnet.

Nassau, together with Suffolk County to its immediate east, are generally referred to as " Long Island " by area residents — as distinct from the New York City boroughs of Queens ( Queens County ) and Brooklyn ( Kings County ), which are geographically on the island's westernmost end.

Beginning a novel tradition, one of that couple's daughters, Princess Olga Aleksandrovna Yurievskaya ( 1873 – 1925 ), in 1895 married the child of an 1868 morganatic marriage in the House of Nassau, George, Count von Merenberg ( 1871 – 1965 ).

About two-thirds of the population lives on New Providence Island ( the location of Nassau ), and about half of the remaining one-third lives on Grand Bahama ( the location of Freeport ).

The House of Orange-Nassau ( in Dutch: Huis van Oranje-Nassau, ), a branch of the European House of Nassau, has played a central role in the politics and government of the Netherlands — and at times in Europe — especially since William I of Orange ( also known as " William the Silent " and " Father of the Fatherland ") organized the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule, which after the Eighty Years ' War led to an independent Dutch state.

The Castle of Nassau was founded around 1100 by Count Dudo-Henry of Laurenburg ( German: Dudo-Heinrich von Laurenburg ), the founder of the House of Nassau.

In Nassau County, for example, the heavily settled Long Island suburb of New York City, the system is credited by the state with serving one million persons, a figure that has doubled since 1950.

Nassau is currently building a central collection of reference materials in its Hempstead headquarters, which will reach its goal of 100,000 volumes by 1965.

Public libraries in Nassau County have been lending books to each other by mail for a quarter-century, but the system enables this process to operate on an organized and far more comprehensive basis.

An early instance was ordered by Louis of Nassau during operations near Mons in Hainaut, when 500 infantry were transported this way.

Queen of Spains Valley, Nassau Valley, and Cave Valley were formed by the same process.

In 1462, during a conflict between two archbishops, Mainz was sacked by archbishop Adolph von Nassau, and Gutenberg was exiled.

In January 1465, Gutenberg's achievements were recognized and he was given the title Hofmann ( gentleman of the court ) by von Nassau.

* 1568 – Dutch rebels led by Louis of Nassau, brother of William I of Orange, defeat Jean de Ligne, Duke of Aremberg and his loyalist troops in the Battle of Heiligerlee, opening the Eighty Years ' War.

The first recorded exploration by the Dutch of the area around what is now called New York Bay was in 1609 with the voyage of the ship Halve Maen or " Half Moon ", captained by Henry Hudson, in the service of the Dutch Republic, as the emissary of Holland's stadholder Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange.

It also showed the first year-round trading presence in New Netherland, Fort Nassau, which would be replaced in 1624 by Fort Orange, which eventually grew into the town of Beverwyck, now Albany.

* July 24 – Governor General Lord Dorchester, by proclamation issued from the Chateau St. Louis in Quebec City, divides the British Province of Quebec into five Districts, namely: Gaspé, Nassau, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, and Hesse.

* August 29 – Johan van Oldenbarnevelt and Hugo Grotius are imprisoned by Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange.

* October 2 – Eighty Years ' War: After a siege of 86 days, Bergen-op-Zoom is relieved by a Dutch army led by Maurice of Nassau and Ernst von Mansfeld.

* April 23 – Stadtholder Maurice of Nassau of the Dutch Republic dies and is succeeded by his younger brother, Frederick Henry.

In 1866 it was annexed by Prussia, together with the Free City of Frankfurt, Hesse-Homburg and the duchy of Nassau, which established the province of Hesse-Nassau.

* June – Zutphen is captured by the Dutch under Maurice of Nassau.

* July – Deventer is captured by the Dutch under Maurice of Nassau.

* March – Maurice of Nassau, Prince of Orange, takes Breda by concealing 68 of his best men in a peat-boat to get through the impregnable defences.

Woodes Rogers arrived in Nassau in late July 1718, with his own 460 ton warship, three other ships belonging to his company, and escorted by three ships of the Royal Navy.
