Skorich was considered the logical choice after the club gave Norm Van Brocklin permission to seek the head coaching job with the Minnesota Vikings, the newest National Football League entry.

Philadelphia Eagles assistant Nick Skorich and a man with Minnesota ties who was working in the CFL, Bud Grant, were also candidates until a different Eagle, quarterback Norm Van Brocklin, was hired on January 18, 1961.

Grant continued his coaching success in the NFL as he took over from original coach, Norm Van Brocklin.

In 1967, Norm Van Brocklin resigned as head coach and Finks immediately hired Bud Grant, who had been a successful coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL for 10 seasons.

Norman Mack " Norm " Van Brocklin ( March 15, 1926 – May 2, 1983 ), nicknamed " The Dutchman ", was an American football

" Van, Norm and Steve were also the backing band on Ian Hunter's single " Great Expectations.

He was Philadelphia's backup quarterback, behind Bobby Thomason in 1957 and Norm Van Brocklin, from 1958 through 1960.

Norm was also the winner of the PBA Player of the Year award in 1994 and 2000.
