The region was conquered by Emir Abdur Rahman Khan in 1895 – 96 and the Nuristani were then converted to Islam.

Many Nuristani languages are subject – object – verb ( SOV ), like most of the other Indo-Iranian languages adjacent to them, but distinct from the Dardic Kashmiri language for the apparent verb-second word order which is also notably used in most Germanic languages including Old English.

Some ancient legends say that his troops are the source of some unusual tribes in the Nuristani region but others believe these to be only legends.

The Nuristani are distinguished from the Kalash of Chitral by their adoption of Islam and territory within Afghanistan.

He ( Yama rajan ) is a creator deity called Dezau ( ḍezáw ) whose name is derived from Indo-European * dheig ' h ' to form ' ( Kati Nuristani dez ' to create ', CDIAL 14621 ); Dezauhe is also called by the Pashto term Khodai.

Nuristani also worked on a direct road route to Laghman province, in order to reduce dependence on the road through restive Kunar province to the rest of Afghanistan.

Georg Morgenstierne visited the Bashgul Valley in 1929 during his field work on Nuristani ( Kafir ) languages.

The Nuristani people are an ethnic group native to the Nuristan region of eastern Afghanistan.

They appear to have split into old Persian peoples, Nuristani, and Indian groups at an early stage, possibly between 1500 and 1000 BC in what is today Afghanistan or much earlier as eastern remnants of the Indo-Aryans drifted much further west as with the Mitanni.

However there are other Nuristani tribes as well, some of KATA of Janaderi people live in Ozhor ( now Karimabad ), Gobor, Buburat, Ayun, Broze and Mastuj.

They are now known as Nuristani.

The Nuristani people's closest relation is to the Kalash people.

General Issa Nuristani was second in command following the King during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Before his assassination, General Issa called the Nuristani people in a " Jihad " against the Soviet Army.
