David Janssen ( March 27, 1931 – February 13, 1980 ) was an American film and television actor who is best known for his starring role as Dr. Richard Kimble in the television series The Fugitive ( 1963 – 1967 ), the starring role in the 1950s hit detective series Richard Diamond, Private Detective ( 1957 – 60 ), and as Harry Orwell on Harry O.

Eric Arthur Blair ( 25 June 1903 – 21 January 1950 ), known by his pen name George Orwell, was an English novelist and journalist.

Early in 1941 he started writing for the American Partisan Review and contributed to Gollancz ' anthology The Betrayal of the Left, written in the light of the Molotov – Ribbentrop Pact ( although Orwell referred to it as the Russo-German Pact and the Hitler-Stalin Pact ).

For the next four years Orwell mixed journalistic work – mainly for Tribune, The Observer and the Manchester Evening News, though he also contributed to many small-circulation political and literary magazines – with writing his best-known work, Nineteen Eighty-Four, which was published in 1949.

" According to historian Piers Brendon, " Orwell was the saint of common decency who would in earlier days, said his BBC boss Rushbrook Williams, ' have been either canonised – or burnt at the stake '".

" Rodden refers to the essay " Why I Write ", in which Orwell refers to the Spanish Civil War as being his " watershed political experience ", saying " The Spanish War and other events in 1936 – 37, turned the scale.

In Part 2 of The Road to Wigan Pier, published by the Left Book Club, Orwell stated: " a real Socialist is one who wishes – not merely conceives it as desirable, but actively wishes – to see tyranny overthrown.

According to Newsinger, although Orwell " was always critical of the 1945 – 51 Labour government's moderation, his support for it began to pull him to the right politically.

* Author George Orwell ( 1903 – 1950 ) spent some of his formative years in Henley-on-Thames and the nearby village of Shiplake.

In his biography of Orwell, Michael Shelden called the article " his most important essay on style ", while Bernard Crick made no reference to the work at all in his original biography, reserving his praise for Orwell's essays in Polemic, which cover a similar political theme.

In a letter to George Woodcock on 28 September 1946, Orwell noted that there were two or three books he was ashamed of and called A Clergyman's Daughter an even worse one than Keep the Aspidistra Flying and said " it was written simply as an exercise and I oughtn't to have published it, but I was desperate for money ".

Because of his political writings, perceived anti-totalitarian stance, and early death of tuberculosis, some English-speaking commentators have called him " the Russian George Orwell ".

Old Major ( also called Willingdon Beauty, his name used when showing ) is the first major character described by George Orwell in Animal Farm.

A contemporary of Orwell, the Australian composer Percy Grainger, wrote English with only Germanic words and called it " blue-eyed English ".
