# Tommaso Pasquale Gizzi ( 1846 – 1847 )

Gabriele Pasquale Giuseppe Rossetti ( 28 February 1783, Vasto, Abruzzo – 24 April 1854 ) was an Italian poet and scholar who emigrated to England.

His best-known works are the operas L ' elisir d ' amore ( 1832 ), Lucia di Lammermoor ( 1835 ), and Don Pasquale ( 1843 ), all in Italian, and the French operas La favorite and La fille du régiment ( both from 1840 ).

The first performance in Italy was at La Scala, Milan on 17 April 1843 with Ottavia Malvani ( Norina ), Napoleone Rossi ( Pasquale ), Leone Corelli ( Ernesto ), and Achille De Bassini ( Malatesta ).

The most prominent verismo baritones included such major singers in Europe and America as the polished Giuseppe De Luca ( the first Sharpless in Madama Butterfly ), Mario Sammarco ( the first Gerard in Andrea Chénier ), Eugenio Giraldoni ( the first Scarpia in Tosca ), Pasquale Amato ( the first Rance in La fanciulla del West ), Riccardo Stracciari ( noted for his richly attractive timbre ) and Domenico Viglione-Borghesi, whose voice was exceeded in size only by that of the lion-voiced Titta Ruffo.

Moreover, two historic novels placed in Corsica during the 18th century: La torre di Nonza ( 1857 ) and Pasquale Paoli ossia la Rotta di Pontenuovo.

On April 2, 1845, he gave a concert in Paris, playing his fantasies op. 63 on Rossini's Barber of Seville, op. 67 on Donizetti's Don Pasquale and op. 52 on Auber's La Muette de Portici, as well as his ' Marche funèbre variée ' op. 59 and the ' Barcarolle ' op. 60.

The Libertine ( La Matriarca ; a. k. a. The Matriarch ) is a 1969 Italian film directed by Pasquale Festa Campanile.

Laporte died suddenly, and Benjamin Lumley took over the management in 1842, introducing London audiences to Donizetti's late operas, Don Pasquale and La fille du régiment.

In 1909-10 she made discs for Fonotipia, with excerpts recorded from Il barbiere, Don Pasquale, La sonnambula, Roméo et Juliette, Dinorah, L ' elisir d ' amore, Don Giovanni, and Mireille.

Carosio was soon singing all over Italy, in demand for roles requiring her light, coloratura voice-notably Amina in Bellini's La sonnambula, Norina in Donizetti's Don Pasquale, and Konstanze in Mozart's Il Seraglio.

He appeared in Pasquale Anfossi's La vera costanza, and for the Carnival opposite Benini in Grétry's Zémire et Azor.

She married Felice Pasquale Baciocchi Levoy, a member of Corsican nobility, on 1 May 1797, created Prince Français, Duke of Lucca and Prince of Piombino and Prince of Massa-Carrara and La Garfagnana.

Habbin then went on to consolidate his operatic training for two years at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and has since performed with various UK opera companies in several roles, including Alfredo in La Traviata, Lt. Pinkerton in Madame Butterfly, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Almaviva in The Barber of Seville, Alfred in Die Fledermaus and Fenton in Falstaff.
