Another charming masterpiece, with two small children depicted, is his canvas of St Nicholas of Bari presenting two children to Virgin ( 1539 ) originally painted for the church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli, but now in the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo.

The Museo Civico ( City Museum ) houses many archeological specimens from the pre-historic to Roman times, plus a Pinacoteca ( gallery ) with paintings of Sebastiano del Piombo, Antoniazzo Romano, Salvator Rosa, Antiveduto Grammatica and others.

The influence from Masolino da Panicale towards more modern, early Renaissance themes is visible in the Madonna with Child ( dated 1448 ) in the Pinacoteca di Brera: for the first time, perspective is present and the figure are more monumental.

The Pinacoteca Comunale in the Palazzetto del Podestà ( 1371 ) has a painting by Pietro Perugino, the Madonna of Mercy, as well as other works by Iacopo Siculo, Dono Doni, Fiorenzo di Lorenzo and Della Robbia.

Two major commissions at this period resulted in Poussin's early masterwork, the Barberini Death of Germanicus ( 1628 ), partly inspired by the reliefs of the Meleager sarcophagus, and the commission for St. Peter's that amounted to a public debut, the Martyrdom of St. Erasmus ( 1629, Vatican Pinacoteca ), indebted to designs on the same subject by the contemporary Baroque painter, Pietro da Cortona.

In Europe, the Musée du Louvre has a few example's of Lawrence's work, and the Vatican Pinacoteca has a swagger portrait of George IV ( presented by the king himself ) as almost its only British work.
