Several bus lines of the Port Authority of Allegheny County travel through Churchill, offering service to downtown Pittsburgh west of Churchill, and also to Monroeville east of Pittsburgh, where Monroeville Mall and several Port Authority park-and-ride lots for bus commuters are located.

For public transit, the Port Authority of Allegheny County has several bus routes running through Homestead that go to downtown Pittsburgh and to McKeesport.

The Port Authority bus line passes through all three wards and provides accessible transportation to downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding region.

Today, Port Allegany is best known for its glass manufacturing, Pittsburgh Corning Corporation, which is the only producer of glass blocks in the United States, and Saint-Gobain Containers, which is a producer of glass containers.

In the 1980s, WMATA Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, also known as Metro, and PAT Port Authority Transit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania complained about frame problems with their Neoplan coaches.

The Chicago and Lake Huron Railroad, the Chicago and Northeastern Railroad ( C & NE ) and the Peninsular Railway of Michigan and Indiana together formed a direct route from Port Huron through Flint and Lansing, Michigan to Valparaiso, Indiana where it connected into Chicago on the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne & Chicago Railroad.

Today, Pittsburgh is still strongly oriented to the rivers ; the port of Pittsburgh ranks No. 13 by tonnage in the USA and even surpasses the Port of Philadelphia in tonnage, due to the heavy shipping of bulk coal by barge inland on the rivers.

Those counties also have their own transit systems, including several routes that run into downtown Pittsburgh, where riders can make connections with Port Authority service.

The Port Authority was created by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1956 to allow for creation of port facilities in the Pittsburgh area.

Students and staff of several colleges in the area, most notably Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, ride the bus at a discounted yearly rate, via a program whereby the students pay a fee each semester to the Port Authority to provide transit.

In December 1977 Port Authority unveiled its first dedicated busway, the 4. 3-mile South Busway, which combined bus and light rail routes into an efficient and quicker connection between downtown Pittsburgh and the South Hills area.

After the death of U. S. Senator Henry Martin " Scoop " Jackson in 1983, the Seattle Port Commission voted to change the name of the airport to Henry M. Jackson International Airport.

With a 3 – 2 vote of the Port of Seattle Commission the long-standing moniker, and the name reverted to Sea-Tac early in 1984.

A Royal Commission led to the setting up of the Port of London Authority ( PLA ) in 1908.

In 2000, the Government of Canada re-organized the operation of port operations in Canada, including the formation of the Toronto Port Authority ( TPA ) to replace the Harbour Commission as the operator of Toronto Harbour and the island airport, with a focus on self-sufficiency and business practices.

In 1999, the operation of the airport was turned over to the new Toronto Port Authority, ( TPA ) which took over the responsibilities of the Harbour Commission, including the airport and port functions.

Unlike the previous Harbour Commission, the Port Authority used a different management structure and a different management focus.

In 1991, the E-ZPass IAG was created to develop an interoperable system, and involved the participation and cooperation of seven independent toll agencies — The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, The New Jersey Turnpike Authority, The New Jersey Highway Authority ( operator of the Garden State Parkway at the time ), the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the New York State Thruway Authority, The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, and the South Jersey Transportation Authority ( operator of the Atlantic City Expressway ).

The port is operated by Port of Blyth, which is the operating division of Blyth Harbour Commission.

To facilitate their construction, the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania expanded the powers of the Delaware River Joint Commission, which owned the Ben Franklin Bridge and the New Jersey portion of the Bridge Line, rechristening it as the Delaware River Port Authority in 1951.
