Pulp released two more albums ( This Is Hardcore and We Love Life ) to critical acclaim, though neither achieved the commercial success of Different Class.

Also in 1998, Pulp collaborated with Patrick Doyle on the song " Like A Friend " for the soundtrack to the film Great Expectations.

This version has since been covered by U2, Pulp ( Different Class Edition 2006 ), Smokie, Metallica ( Garage Inc. 1998, which won a Grammy ), Belle & Sebastian ( The Blues Are Still Blue EP 2006 ), Gary Moore ( 2006 ), Nicky Moore ( Top Musicians Play Thin Lizzy 2008 ), Simple Minds ( Searching for the Lost Boys 2009 ), and Israeli musician Izhar Ashdot.

Lloyd started producing the album in 1998 and finished the album with producer Ed Buller, a former member of the Psychedelic Furs, who had produced albums by Pulp and Suede.

In late 1998 they supported Pulp, but any impetus had been lost by this point and they were dropped from their record label shortly after.

According to the album's liner notes, the first ten tracks were recorded " somewhere in England " during December 1998 while the Eels were a support act for the band Pulp.

Recent campaigns that Resistance has helped organise and lead include high school walkouts against Pauline Hanson in 1998, Books not Bombs anti-war protests in 2003, the APEC protests against George Bush in 2007 and Students Against the Pulp Mill in 2008.

Instrumentally, their sound contains lush, multi-layered, psychedelic rock arrangements, but lyrically their compositions show elements of space rock, including unusual song and album titles — such as " What Is the Light?

William Saroyan's short story, " The Journey to Hanford " that appeared in My Name Is Aram is a comic account of two characters from Fresno — a boy and his wastrel uncle — who share a single bicycle as they travel the approximately thirty-mile route between Fresno and Hanford, taking along a sack of rice to feed them through what turns out to be a largely pointless summer.

The track and further remixes were not only big hits in the clubs but the name of the track was used for a BBC one-off show featuring John Peel showcasing modern Hardcore music — a BBC radio first at the time.
