In addition there are nine townships: Bogue, Bug Hill, Lees, Ransom, South Williams, Tatums, Welch Creek, Western Prong and Williams

The main geographic feature of Ransom Township is a small segment of the Little Rock Creek found in the western portions of the township.

Part of the community is within a small valley which is traversed by Ransom Creek.

* Ransom Creek – A stream entering the north end of Kyser Lake.

These are Harvey's Creek, Jersey Creek, Coal Creek ( formerly Mill Creek, Smith's Creek or Ransom Creek ), Wadham's Creek ( formerly Whittlesey's Creek ), Brown's Creek ( formerly Nesbitt's Creek, Cooper's Run or Pine Swamp Creek ), Shupp's Creek and Toby's Creek.

At a few locations these beds were visible in the form of outcrops, and one such location was a gorge created by Ransom Creek ( now Coal Creek ) located about a mile upstream from the Susquehanna River.

This stream has been dammed multiple times to form Buffalo Springs Lake and Lake Ransom Canyon.

Directly south of downtown on the other side of I-496 along Washington Avenue lies " REO Town ", the birthplace of the automobile in the United States, is where Ransom Eli Olds built factories along Washington Avenue.

Amboy Township was formed by an act of the Michigan Legislature on March 28, 1850, from Woodbridge Township and Ransom Township out of the partial survey townships 9 south ranges 2 and 3 west and the southern tier of sections from survey township 8 south ranges 2 and 3 west.

Ransom Canyon lies in the south eastern part of famed Yellow House Canyon, which is in the upper tributary of the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River.
