MacLachlan is best known for his roles in cult films Blue Velvet as Jeffrey Beaumont, Showgirls as Zack Carey, as Paul Atreides in Dune, and Ray Manzarek in the Oliver Stone film The Doors.

During recording of the album session bassist Larry Knechtel was present on some of the songs, while on stage Ray Manzarek used a left-handed keyboard bass.

The result was their first LP release, Los Angeles ( 1980 ) ( produced by The Doors ' keyboard player, Ray Manzarek ).

The original line-up also returned to the studio for the final time, with Ray Manzarek reprising his role as producer, to record a cover of The Doors ' The Crystal Ship for the soundtrack for The X-Files: Fight the Future.

The Doors had a background in film-making and both lead singer Jim Morrison and keyboard player Ray Manzarek were studying film at UCLA when they met.

Within months of their live debut, popular club gigs on the Sunset Strip, as well as guest jams with musicians such as Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Ray Manzarek, led to the band being the subject of a record label bidding war.

In 2002, Copeland was hired by Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors to play with them for a new album and tour, but after an injury sidelined Copeland, the arrangement ended in mutual lawsuits.
