The Dow Recreation and Wellness Center and Kresge Gymnasium are the two athletic facilities on campus which see increased use as students work on the physical aspect of wellness.

Adjacent to Sprankle-Sprandle stadium is the Dow Recreation and Wellness Center.

The Joseph Edward Gallo Recreation and Wellness Center, named after the rancher and dairy farmer who donated money for the facility's construction, features a " NCAA-sized basketball court, workout facilities, room for performances, wellness and fitness education and the Rajender Reddy Student Health Center ".

In 2007, the Student Recreation and Wellness Center added a popular student-funded facility to the university waterfront, which has garnered an Innovative Architecture and Design award from Recreation Management Magazine.

Construction continued with the anticipated dedication of the new Student Services and Administration building in summer 2010 and the Recreation and Wellness Center in Fall 2010.

A bridge from the parking structure will allow students and faculty access to the central campus and other buildings such as the Recreation and Wellness center, Warren Hall, and Meiklejohn Hall.

The theater, containing its original Wurlitzer organ, was used as a basketball court for the Brooklyn campus ' Blackbirds ' home basketball games until the Athletic, Recreation & Wellness Center ( designed by Arquitectonica ) was built.

At the end of the 2006 football season, the University of Dubuque received a $ 22 million from Joseph ( Class of 1968 ) and Linda Chlapaty to build the new Chlapaty Recreation and Wellness Center as well as support renovations to Stoltz Sports Center.
