The Ashley River area contains 26 separate sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places with 22 miles being designated a State Scenic River, extending from Sland's Bridge ( US Highway 17-A ) near Summerville to the Mark Clark expressway ( I-526 ) bridge in Charleston.

In 1906, while working at the National Cash Register company, inventor Charles F. Kettering designed a cash register with an electric motor.

The Lock Ridge Furnace Complex and George F. Schlicher Hotel are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Samuel F. Dale House and Franklin Historic District are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Several buildings and structures are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including St. Ann's Episcopal Church, the Sheldon Boright House, the F. W.

Three other structures in Newport are on the New York State and National Register of Historic Places: Benjamin Bowen House, Newport Stone Arch Bridge, and Masonic Temple — Newport Lodge No. 445 F. & A. M.

President-elect John F. Kennedy gave his victory speech on November 9, 1960 at the former Hyannis Armory, which is in the National Register of Historic Places.

The entire block of F Street between 8th and 9th is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

He hired Charles F. Kettering to prove the concept and three years later, Kettering had a working production model which revolutionized the register business and established National Cash Register as the dominant manufacturer worldwide for decades.
