In a 2008 conversation with BBC Radio 2's Johnnie Walker, Cropper revealed that the record became an instant success when DJ Reuben Washington, at Memphis radio station WLOK, played the song four times in succession, this even before the tune or the band had an agreed-upon name.

In late 2001 the band embarked on the " Electric Youth " tour with Relient K, John Reuben, and Ace Troubleshooter.

In October 2002, following a disastrous tour to promote God Bless Miss Black America ( supported by Leeds-based rockers Parva, later known as The Kaiser Chiefs ) and on the eve of a performance at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, NL ( at the personal invitation of John Peel ) and a UK tour supporting Kinesis and Reuben, the band underwent a radical shake-up, replacing all except Glass with Mat Anthony ( guitar / voice ), Jonny Steele ( bass ) and Simon Cooper ( drums ).

In September 1998, three former members of the band Left Here ; vocalist and pianist Andrew McMahon, bassist Kevin " Clutch " Page, and drummer Brian Ireland, merged with lead guitarist Josh Partington and rhythm guitarist Reuben Hernandez, to form Something Corporate.

The band toured with Billy Talent, Thrice, Reuben, My Awesome Compilation, Jackson, Matchbook Romance and played numerous shows with Biffy Clyro.
