The episode featured guest appearances by Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis as their Star Trek: The Next Generation characters William Riker and Deanna Troi.

He was attending the wedding of William Riker and Deanna Troi on Earth and was traveling to Betazed with the Enterprise crew for the second wedding ceremony when the ship was diverted to investigate positronic signals from a system near the Romulan border.

His next appearance was later in the first season in the episode " Hide and Q ", where he wanted to have a human enter the Continuum, settling on Picard's first officer, Commander Riker ( the reason being that humanity had the potential to one day evolve beyond the Q and Q wanted to understand how ), but Riker remained human.

Q also lost a wager he made with Picard, detailing that if he failed to turn Riker, then he has to stay out of humanity's path – forever.

Twice in the series, Geordi refused to be granted natural vision, first by Commander Riker who had been given extraordinary amounts of power by Q and later by Doctor Katherine Pulaski.
