The Rude Awakening Program educates the youth and their parents about alcohol abuse and its position as a gateway drug to further and harsher drugs and substance abuse.

On 20 August 1996, Rude Awakening bassist Robert Ryder held " A Celebration of the Life of Philip Lynott " at the Palace in Hollywood, California at the request of Lynott's mother, Philomena, to commemorate both Phil Lynott's birthday and the tenth year of his passing.

It featured concert performances by Rude Awakening, Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo, John Norum, Carmine Appice, Phantom Blue, Soma, producer Roy Z and his band the Tribe of Gypsies, Mark Ferrari, Oslo, Bang Tango, Stash, Iron Cross and Irish singer-songwriter Mark Dignam.

He had a recurring role on Showtime series Rude Awakening and as Rabbi Richard Glass on the dramatic series 7th Heaven, and appeared on the Tales from the Crypt episode " Whirlpool ".

The soundtrack album for the 1989 film Rude Awakening included two tracks produced by Steinman.

One was the song " Rude Awakening ", with lead vocals by Bill Medley and was written by Rick Rose and Paul Rothchild.

Of note is the episode Rude Awakening starring Denholm Elliott who plays an Estate Agent trapped in a recurring nightmare.

The Leftöver Crack song " Gay Rude Boys Unite " is a parody of " Unity " and the introduction music is deliberately similar to that of " Yellin ' in My Ear ".

The song was directed to the " Rude Boys " of the ghettos of Jamaica at the time, sending them a message to cool down or " Simmer Down " with all the violence and crime going on in Kingston.
