Metallic paint became an option for the first time in November 1989 when the 1. 5 SLX was launched.

The QX4 was released after Acura's introduction of the larger SLX ( a rebadged Isuzu Trooper ) and the Lexus LX ( a rebadged Toyota Land Cruiser ).

The Pinarello Montello SLX model frame was one of the most responsive of the mid to late 1980s as shown by wins in events such as the 1984 Olympic Road Race, Vuelta a España (), the Giro d ' Italia and stages of the Tour de France.

* SLi 2000: was unique to the JE, being a " sports " package based on the SLX.

In somewhat of a marketing ploy, the SLi was only available in red, in the sedan body shell with a five-speed manual transaxle, and with a grey interior from the SLX.

Like the Camira before it, the JK Apollo was available in " SL ", " SLX " and " SLE " equipment variants in either sedan or station wagon body styles.

An " SLX " option pack, known as the " Executive " was also available.

The " Executive " variant was not a stand alone model, but an option pack for the " SLX ", adding power steering and automatic transmission.

Equipment levels mostly mirrored the previous JK, although the " SLX " was now similar in specification to the discontinued " Executive " and the " GS " to the JK " SLE ", albeit without standard automatic transmission.

SLX: was aimed at fleet markets, fitted with power steering, a radio cassette player, a remote boot and fuel cap release, and electric side-view mirrors.

At the same time, the model range was revised, the GS wagon removed, and manual transmission could now only be specified in conjunction with the SLX four-cylinder.

in September 1982 the final revised Ital range was introduced, the L and 2. 0 litre models were dropped and the HL and HLS were replaced by the SL and SLX models.

In the Philippines, it was initially offered in three trims namely the 1. 7 DX ( diesel ), 1. 3 SLX and the 1. 5 SGX, the wagon version was also available in the 1. 5 SGX trim and was called the Nissan California.

The LE was offered with Toyota's 1. 4 litre engine ( hatchback only ) and 1. 6 litre engine, in Holden's traditional SL ( hatchback only ), SLX and SLE trims.

The SLX trim level was equipped with a 1. 6 litre engine, while the GS trim level denoted the fitment of the 1. 8 litre engine.

As the recession began to take hold in Japan, known as the " bubble economy ", Isuzu was affected particularly hard, and after a corporate restructuring, Isuzu decided to abandon passenger car production and focus on commercial truck and SUV production, as the Isuzu Trooper and the Isuzu Rodeo found many buyers internationally, with badge engineered versions sold in Europe as Vauxhalls and Holdens in Australia with assistance from General Motors, and Honda also selling the Honda Passport and the Acura SLX.

The Passport was a part of a partnership between Isuzu and Honda in the 1990s which saw an exchange of passenger vehicles from Honda to Isuzu such as the Isuzu Oasis and trucks from Isuzu to Honda such as the Passport and Acura SLX.

In 2005, the Shure SLX series wireless was awarded a TEC Award.

It was exported worldwide as the Isuzu Bighorn, Isuzu Trooper, Isuzu Trooper II, Caribe 442, Acura SLX, Chevrolet Trooper, Subaru Bighorn, Honda Horizon, Opel / Vauxhall Monterey, Holden Jackaroo, and Holden Monterey.

In Japan it was known as the Honda Horizon from 1994 to 1999, and as the Acura SLX in the United States from 1996 to 1999.

The " Acura SLX " was a lightly upgraded and re-badged Isuzu Trooper sold by the Acura division of Honda from 1995 to 1999, as 1996 to 1999 year models.

Sold only in the United States, the SLX was later replaced by the Honda Odyssey-based Acura MDX in 2001.

A second update in June 1994 fitted a driver's airbag as standard on all models bar the four-cylinder SLX.

The SLX also received a tachometer and rear mudflaps, while the GS variant gained standard fitment cruise control and power windows.

The SLX also featured full plastic wheel trims, as opposed to the steel centre hubcap fitted to the SL.

" SLX " variants were distinguished by their full wheel covers, as opposed to the " SL " model's steel wheels with centre caps.

The " SL " and " SLX " continued, with the " SLE " now available only as a sedan.

The sedan-only SLX V6 added four-wheel disc brakes over the 2. 2 model's front-disc, rear-drum layout, with anti-lock brakes ( ABS ) on the V6 available as an option.

In addition to this, remote central locking came standard to the SLX along with rear head restraints.

At this time, the Ital received an upgrade with different front and rear suspension ( parabolic rear springs and telescopic front dampers ) and models were redesignated SL and SLX.

Kia offered an entry-level " SLX " with the 1. 5-liter inline-four engine, standard with five-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic, and equipped with power steering, air conditioning, and cloth trim.

Along with the sedan, Kia dispensed with the 1. 5-liter engine and SLX / GLX model identifiers.

From 1996 to 1997 the SLX was only available with the 3. 2-litre DOHC V6 engine, switching to the new 3. 5-litre DOHC V6 engine in 1998.

Despite getting just six points in the season this wasn't a record, as Workington Town in SLI, Huddersfield Giants in SLIII, Halifax in SLVIII and Leigh Centurions in SLX all ended up with less than six points.

The range now consisted of the 1. 3 SL and SLX saloon 1. 3 SL estate 1. 7 SLX saloon 1. 7 SL and SL estate.

The 1. 3-litre version is assembled locally ( 1. 3 SLX ) and is known for greater reliability than the imported versions.

Of the three trim specifications offered, the SLX and SLE nameplates no longer featured the "/" symbol, as in SL / X.

This saw new S, SX and SLX trim levels, as well as a new eight-valve 2. 0 GT model.

* SL, SLX, Executive, SLE: as for JB and JE series, except the SLX and SLE nameplates no longer featured the "/" symbol, as in SL / X.

GS: built on the SLX level, adding 60 / 40 split-fold rear seats, variable intermittent windscreen wipers, a four-speaker stereo, tachometer, central locking and a more luxurious interior upholstery style.
