** Saint Matthias

It was founded in 1991 by Viennese students Matthias Fiegl and Wolfgang Stranzinger when they discovered the Lomo LC-A camera created by LOMO PLC of Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Relics of Saint Matthias brought to the city initiated widespread pilgrimages.

Aschaffenburg's chief buildings are the Schloss Johannisburg, built 1605 – 1614 by Archbishop Schweikard von Kronberg, which contains a library with a number of incunabula, a collection of engravings and paintings ; the Pompejanum, a replica of a Roman town house discovered in Pompeii commissioned by King Ludwig I. and opened in 1850 ; the Stiftskirche basilica, founded in 974 by Otto of Swabia, duke of Bavaria, but dating in the main from the early 12th century on, in which are preserved various monuments by the Vischers, a sarcophagus with the relics of Saint Margaret, and a famous painting by Matthias Grünewald ; the Capuchin hospital ; a theatre, which was formerly a house of the Teutonic Order ; several mansions of the nobility ; and the beautiful, historical " Altstadt " ( the oldest section of Aschaffenburg ).

The Museum has various paintings by Matthias Stomer and Salomon de Bray, including The Incredulity of Saint Thomas and Judith and Holofernes, as well as still lifes by the most important artists of the Haarlem School: Pieter Claesz, Willem Claesz Heda, and Jan Davidsz de Heem.

However, the other European collections include examples of the work of many of the great masters of western painting, including an important version of Saint Martin and the Beggar, by El Greco, and works by Matthias Grünewald, Cranach the Elder, Rogier Van der Weyden, Albrecht Dürer, Frans Hals, Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, Francisco Goya, Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, and Eugène Delacroix, among others.

Also part of the province are numerous smaller islands, including Saint Matthias Group ( Mussau, Emirau ), New Hanover, Djaul, Tabar Group ( Tabar, Tatau, Simberi ), Lihir, Tanga Group ( Malendok, Boang ), Feni Islands ( Ambitle, Babase ) and Anir.

Other apostles claimed by the Church to have preached in Georgia include Simon the Canaanite ( better known in the West as Simon the Zealot ) said to have been buried near Sokhumi, in the village of Anakopia, and Saint Matthias, said to have preached in the southwest of Georgia, and to have been buried in Gonio, a village not far from Batumi.

Saint Matthias Catholic Church is also found one block south of Montgomery on Bryn Mawr Avenue.

After his ordination he worked in Berlin at Saint Matthias, where he became a close friend of Nuncio Eugenio Pacelli, later to be Pope Pius XII.

The District A & C Court maintains a seat in Saint Matthias, and the District B Court in Oistins.

The church was extended during the reign of King Matthias, in which the present-day ceiling of the sanctuary, the eastern ends of the aisles and the Saint Benedict chapel were completed.

Saint Matthias is said to be buried in the Gonio fortress near Batumi.

In the mid-1990s Saint Mary's parish and Saint Martin's parish were merged into one parish known as St. Matthias.

He certainly corresponded with Elias III, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, and possibly sent a mission to India in honour of Saint Thomas the Apostle, whose tomb was believed to lie in that country.

While in Rome for Otto's imperial coronation, Bruno met Saint Adalbert of Prague, the first Apostle of the Prussians, killed a year later, which inspired Bruno to write a biography of St Adalbert when he reached the recently Christianized and consolidated Kingdom of Hungary himself.

Charles also did much to support Winfrid, later Saint Boniface, the " Apostle of the Germans.

Both the Patriarchate of Addis Ababa and all Ethiopia, and the Patriarchate of Asmara and all Eritrea do acknowledge the supremacy of honor and dignity of the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria on the basis that both Patriarchates were established by the Throne of Alexandria and that they have their roots in the Apostolic Church of Alexandria, and acknowledge that Saint Mark the Apostle is the founder of their Churches through the heritage and Apostolic evangelization of the Fathers of Alexandria.

This is because Alexandria was the Capital of the Province, and the preaching center and the place of martyrdom of Saint Mark the Evangelist and Apostle.

The feast day of Saint John in the Roman Catholic Church, which calls him " Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist ", and in the Anglican Communion, which calls him " John, Apostle and Evangelist ", is on 27 December.

Since the papacy of Heraclas in the 3rd century, the Bishop of the Alexandria in both the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria and the Greek Orthodox Church of Alexandria continue to be called " Pope ", the former being called " Coptic Pope " or, more properly, " Pope and Patriarch of All Africa on the Holy Orthodox and Apostolic Throne of Saint Mark the Evangelist and Holy Apostle " and the last called " Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa ".

They based their new basilica on the original 4th-century ( since demolished ) Old Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, using the transept and crypt plan of that great pilgrimage church to frame their own saint as the " Apostle to the Germans ".
