In the line of operatic trades to cushion the budget, the Dallas Civic Opera will use San Francisco's new Leni Bauer-Ecsy production of `` Lucia Di Lammermoor '' this season, returning the favor next season when San Francisco uses the Dallas `` Don Giovanni '', designed by Franco Zeffirelli.

Returning to Italy, the most celebrated doors are those of the Battistero di San Giovanni ( Florence ), which together with the door frames are all in bronze, the borders of the latter being perhaps the most remarkable: the modeling of the figures, birds and foliage of the south doorway, by Andrea Pisano ( 1330 ), and of the east doorway by Ghiberti ( 1425 – 1452 ), are of great beauty ; in the north door ( 1402 – 1424 ) Ghiberti adopted the same scheme of design for the paneling and figure subjects in them as Andrea Pisano, but in the east door the rectangular panels are all filled, with bas-reliefs, in which Scripture subjects are illustrated with innumerable figures, these being probably the gates of Paradise of which Michelangelo speaks.

Another important church built in the 11th century is the Patron Saint church of San Giovanni Battista, located in the oldest section of the village also known as " Su Piggiu ".

He studied music as a puer ( boy chorister ) at San Luigi dei Francesi, under the maestro di capella Giovanni Bernardino Nanino, brother of Giovanni Maria Nanino.

His early influences included Paolo da Perugia ( a curator and author of a collection of myths, the Collectiones ), the humanists Barbato da Sulmona and Giovanni Barrili, and the theologian Dionigi di Borgo San Sepolcro.

A church, San Giovanni a Porta Latina, dedicated to him was built near the Latin Gate ( Porta Latina ) of Rome, the traditional scene of this event.

Parts of Lombard constructions have been preserved in Pavia ( San Pietro in Ciel d ' Oro, crypts of Sant ' Eusebio and San Giovanni Domnarum ) and Monza ( cathedral ).

In his book Dell ’ Istoria della Sacra Religione et Illustrissima Militia di San Giovanni Gierosolimitano (), written between 1594 and 1602, Giacomo Bosio endorses the notion that Maltese descended from Carthaginian.

One possible place of birth is Venice's former contrada of San Giovanni Crisostomo, which is sometimes presented by historians as the birthplace, and it is generally accepted that Marco Polo was born in the Venetian Republic with most biographers pointing towards Venice itself as Marco Polo's home town.

Polo was finally released from captivity in August 1299, and returned home to Venice, where his father and uncle had purchased a large house in the central quarter named contrada San Giovanni Crisostomo.

Born Giovanni Rota Rinaldi, into a musical family in Milan, Rota was a renowned child prodigy — his first oratorio, L ' infanzia di San Giovanni Battista, was written at age 11 and performed in Milan and Paris as early as 1923 ; his three-act lyrical comedy after Hans Christian Andersen, Il Principe Porcaro, was composed when he was just 13 and published in 1926.

In 1832 the Institute of Forensic Medicine was set up, in 1837 a specialization course in Obstetrics was introduced and a new Theatre and Museum of Anatomy was opened at the San Giovanni Battista Hospital to bring together the materials stored at the University and those collected since 1818 at the Museum of Pathological Anatomy.

However, with the coming of the Renaissance and the Baroque style, and revived interest in art and architecture of antiquity, barrel vaulting was re-introduced on a truly grandiose scale, and employed in the construction of many famous buildings and churches, such as Basilica di Sant ' Andrea di Mantova by Leone Battista Alberti, San Giorgio Maggiore by Andrea Palladio, and perhaps most glorious of all, St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, where a huge barrel vault spans the 27 meter wide nave.

" Other prominent singers who performed at San Carlo included the renowned castrati Giovanni Manzuoli, Caffarelli ( Gaetano Majorano ), Farinelli ( Carlo Broschi ), Gizziello ( Gioacchino Conti ) and Gian Battista Velluti, the last castrato.
