Northern Bosnia contains very fertile agricultural land along the river Sava and the corresponding area is heavily farmed.

The river Sava and corresponding Posavina river basin hold the cities of Brčko, Bosanski Šamac, Bosanski Brod and Bosanska Gradiška.

Sava is making a natural border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia and towns like Brčko, Bosanski Šamac, Bosanska Gradiška lies on the river.

Water transport can be divided into sea, based on the ports of Rijeka, Ploče, Split and Zadar, and river transport, based on Sava, Danube and, to a lesser extent, Drava.

Its part south of Sava river belongs to Balkan peninsula-Balkans.

Syrmia (; ) is a fertile region of the Pannonian Plain in Europe, between the Danube and Sava rivers.

At the beginning of the nineteenth century while Napoleon ’ s cannons were changing the political map of Europe, and Karadjordje ’ s rebels were fighting for Serbian independence, a prominent merchant from Novi Sad Sava Vukovic of Beregsova, was thinking of leaving something permanent to remind his people of himself.

Matija Petar Katančić thought the Šokci to be descendants of the original Thracian tribes, but the prevalent opinion of modern scholars, based on etymology, is that they were Catholics who moved from the south, across the Sava from Bosnia, by the end of the Ottoman wars in Europe, as the Turks were retreating.

Saint Sava began the work on the Serbian Nomocanon in 1208 while being at Mount Athos, using The Nomocanon in Fourteen Titles, Synopsis of Stefan the Efesian, Nomocanon of John Scholasticus, Ecumenical Councils ' documents, which he modified with the canonical commentaries of Aristinos and John Zonaras, local church meetings, rules of the Holy Fathers, the law of Moses, translation of Prohiron and the Byzantine emperors ' Novellae ( most were taken from Justinian's Novellae ).

White Carniola ( Bela krajina ), otherwise part of Lower Carniola, is usually considered a separate region, as is the Central Sava Valley ( Zasavje ), which is otherwise a part of Upper and Lower Carniola and Styria.

Some famous churches which are referred to as temples include Hagia Sophia, Saint Basil's Cathedral, Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, or the Temple of Saint Sava in Belgrade, Serbia.

During administration of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary, the town was a seat of the Valkó ( Croatian: Vuka ) county, which was located between rivers Drava and Sava, while during Ottoman administration it was part of the Sanjak of Syrmia.

The Brod Fortress from the Baroque period, was constructed during the Austro-Hungarian Empire to serve as a stronghold against the Ottoman Empire, which was situated on the other bank of the Sava river.

The historian Rade Mihaljcic suggests that the cult was a popular movement which originated among the Serbs south of the Sava and Danube during the Ottoman period.

For most of its history, it developed separately from Belgrade, which lies across the Sava river, but the development of New Belgrade in the late 20th century joined them together in a continuous urban area.

Sava returns to Serbia in the winter of 1205-06 or 1206-07, and intervenes and reconciles his two brothers, taking the remains of his father with him, which he relocates to the Studenica monastery.

Eventually in exile he wrote the only substantial biography of St. Sava which we have.

Apart from the Danube, which flows 588 km through Serbia or as a border river ( with Croatia on its northwestern flow and Romania on southeast ), the chief rivers are its tributaries Sava ( incoming from West ), Tisa ( incoming from North ), Drina ( incoming from South, forming a natural border with Bosnia and Herzegovina ) and Morava ; only the latter flowing ( almost ) entirely through Serbia.

In 1929, after a new territorial division, the region was divided between Danube Banovina and Drina Banovina, which were provinces of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and in 1931 it was divided between Danube Banovina and Sava Banovina.

The canton lies near the border with Croatia and near the river Sava which forms a natural border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In 1219 Saint Sava founded the seat of the Episcopate of Zeta on Prevlaka when he founded the Serbian Orthodox Church, which greatly helped the spread of Orthodoxy.

Stretching between the rivers Sava and Drava, on the roads which ran between Siscia-Mursa, ( Sisak-Osijek ), Salona – Aquincum, Sirmium – Poetovio, it was easy to access.

Sirmium had two bridges with which she was bridged river Sava, of which indicate the historical sources, bridge Ad Basanti and Artemida's bridge.

Singidunum was defended by the Roman legion IV Flaviae which built a fortified camp on a hill at the confluence of the rivers the Danube and the Sava.

The region is named after a town of Mačva, which existed in the Medieval Ages near the river Sava.
