Sir Cedric Webster Hardwicke ( 19 February 1893 – 6 August 1964 ) was a noted English stage and film actor whose career spanned nearly fifty years.

He has been played several times in adaptations of Tom Brown's School Days, including by Sir Cedric Hardwicke in the 1940 version, Iain Cuthbertson in the 1971 version and Stephen Fry in the 2005 version.

Born at Sydney Lodge, near Southampton, Hardwicke was the eldest son of Admiral Sir Joseph Sydney Yorke, second son of Charles Yorke, Lord Chancellor, by his second wife, Agneta Johnson.

His brother was Admiral Sir Joseph Sidney Yorke ( 1768 – 1831 ), whose son succeeded to the earldom of Hardwicke.

The play was later made into a famous 1948 film directed by Anthony Asquith, starring Robert Donat as Sir Robert Morton KC, Sir Cedric Hardwicke as Arthur Winslow, and Margaret Leighton as Catherine Winslow.

The corporation voted on September 27, 1598, that Quiney should ride to London about the suit to Sir John Fortescue, chancellor of the Exchequer, for discharging of the tax and subsidy.

When Sir Edward Greville enclosed the town commons on the Bancroft, Quiney and others leveled his hedges on January 21, 1600/1, and were charged with riot by Sir Edward.
